The Gambler (赌徒) - Marc Almond[00:00:00]
On a dark night in a lost hour[00:00:04]
In a town built from neon and chrome[00:00:08]
Where Las Vegas seeks the desert[00:00:12]
In an old broken down casino[00:00:16]
There the gambler slapped his money down[00:00:20]
Dirty dollars one hundred or more[00:00:24]
Placed his last bet on a poker game[00:00:29]
Crossed his heart for the winning score[00:00:33]
But the players at the table[00:00:39]
Two men of the phantom creed[00:00:43]
Seemed to play with sombre purpose[00:00:47]
Than a reason and pure greed[00:00:52]
And the gambler felt his back freeze[00:00:55]
And fear brushed his ageing brow[00:01:00]
For he'd seen those men before in his dreams[00:01:04]
Here they sat before him now[00:01:08]
And the one smoothed back his black hair[00:01:14]
With a comb slicked by brylcream and grease[00:01:17]
Flipped the cards with a flippancy[00:01:20]
Of a wily and slippery ease[00:01:23]
With his sharp suit shade of lilac[00:01:26]
On a shuffle he made the cards sing[00:01:29]
Gold studs and menthol cigarettes[00:01:32]
Rubies set in a skull ring[00:01:36]
And the other of the clergy[00:01:39]
With a colour and robe of pale ivory[00:01:43]
Silver grey at the temples[00:01:47]
And a smile that was stern and was kindly[00:01:51]
Jack of hearts lead wait for aces[00:02:04]
Became faces of family and friends[00:02:08]
Until the deck showed him a picture[00:02:12]
Of his life from beginning to end[00:02:16]
Reverend Life he flipped an ace[00:02:20]
And the gambler felt blood in his heart[00:02:24]
For he knew this was the game of games[00:02:29]
He would need all the Reverend's heart[00:02:33]
Anger lust and gluttony[00:02:39]
The gambler seems hit hard[00:02:41]
Each failure and each feature[00:02:45]
Mapped out in the slippery cards[00:02:48]
Greasy Mr D flashed a winning grin[00:02:51]
And stood facing Reverend Life[00:02:54]
The Reverend paled as he saw the score[00:02:57]
The gambler felt pain as a knife[00:03:00]
His troubles tribulations[00:03:03]
Revelations and regrets[00:03:06]
A wife a child a fight to trial[00:03:09]
Turned by the hand of death[00:03:12]
And the gambler saw his hand stained[00:03:15]
With the blood of his family ties[00:03:18]
And with the yellow smile of Mr D [00:03:20]
In his mind he crumples and dies[00:03:24]
And these two great men from different worlds[00:03:44]
Faced each other and shook of hands[00:03:48]
The reverend shrugged "ah well next time"[00:03:51]
And departed for heaven's land[00:03:56]
And the flames leapt and the soul screamed[00:04:00]
And the cards scattered round the room[00:04:04]
And life is always a gamble[00:04:08]
A game from the cradle to tomb[00:04:12]
And the flames leapt and the soul screamed[00:04:16]
And the cards scattered round the room[00:04:19]
And life is always a gamble[00:04:22]
A game from the cradle to tomb[00:04:25]
And the flames leapt and the soul screamed[00:04:28]
And the cards scattered round the room[00:04:32]
And life is always a gamble[00:04:35]
A game from the cradle to tomb[00:04:38]
