The Mudshark Interview - Frank Zappa[00:00:00]
What's your name [00:00:01]
I'm Martin Tickman[00:00:01]
And what is your position here [00:00:02]
Front office manager[00:00:04]
The name of this stablishment is [00:00:05]
This is the Edgewater Inn[00:00:06]
In Seattle Washington [00:00:08]
Can you tell me [00:00:09]
Uh how some rock'n'roll groups have taken advantage of this unique situation [00:00:11]
They've taken advantage in different ways [00:00:15]
And we do encourage [00:00:18]
Uh and advertise that you can fish from your room and we are glad to have our guests fish from 'em[00:00:19]
Do you supply them with fishing equipment [00:00:25]
No but we have a shop in the hotel that does rent the equipment as well as bait[00:00:28]
What sort of bait do they usually use [00:00:32]
Uh it's a preserved minnow of some variety [00:00:35]
I don't know exactly what the fish is[00:00:40]
Well what do they do after they fish from the window [00:00:43]
Well rock'n'roll bands and other guests as well often catch shark and squid and octopus and usually we [00:00:45]
It lands up either in the bath tub or dribbled on the floor on the way to the bath tub[00:00:49]
Mm-mmh[00:00:55]
But it's not reserved to uh to any rock'n'roll bands I mean other guests do it too[00:00:56]
Mm-mmh but how frequently do you find squids and sharks and octopuses in the bath tubs of the rooms here at the hotel [00:01:05]
After almost any good weekend of pretty heavy occupancy [00:01:12]
Say like over half the house filled[00:01:14]
If you have over the[00:01:16]
Way way[00:01:18]
Over half house filled you'd find one say [00:01:18]
Yeah say one or something like that[00:01:21]
So how often would you say that is each week [00:01:23]
Twice a week you'd find a [00:01:25]
Well I would I don't know that I would say that it would average to anything like that [00:01:27]
You may find on four or five rooms with fish from various places [00:01:33]
Ou know around [00:01:36]
But there's not much you can do with the shark after you've caught him [00:01:38]
You know some of these things are pretty big[00:01:41]
What would you imagine is done with these [00:01:43]
Uh sharks after they've been caught before they are left [00:01:44]
Uh for you to be cleaned up [00:01:48]
Sometimes the guest calls the houseman or housekeeper to haul[00:01:49]
It away because there's nothing that they can do with it[00:01:52]
Yeah well [00:01:56]
Have you ever heard of any other things that were done with them before they were hauled away [00:01:57]
Yes a lot of [00:02:01]
Some people like to uh perform vivisection on 'em [00:02:03]
Or something like that [00:02:06]
Occasionally you find that little bit of mess[00:02:07]
FZ: Yeah[00:02:09]
I'll say that the the [00:02:09]
The "blood on the carpet" syndrome is rather eh [00:02:11]
Rather rare but it did occasionally happen[00:02:14]
Do you ever find fish blood on the sheets of your beds here[00:02:17]
