Wreck Of The Old Ninety-Seven - Oscar Brand[00:00:00]
The Wreck of the Old 97[00:00:04]
There were 97 airplanes warming up on the apron[00:00:05]
Far as the eye could see[00:00:07]
Now the first 96 were recent construction[00:00:11]
But the last was a 51-D[00:00:14]
Then a 2nd Lieutenant wandered into operations[00:00:21]
Asked for a ship to fly[00:00:24]
They said young man we are very short of airplanes[00:00:28]
But we'll get you a somethin' by and by[00:00:31]
Now the first 46 are reserved for the Majors[00:00:38]
The captains have the next 49[00:00:42]
There's only one other ship on the end of the apron[00:00:45]
Said the Shavetail and that one is mine[00:00:49]
So he flew over Tajon and the Taju airstrip[00:00:55]
When the ceiling began to fall[00:00:59]
The clouds closed down on the tops of the mountains[00:01:02]
He couldn't see the ground at all[00:01:06]
He flew through the rain he flew through the snowstorm[00:01:13]
When the light began to fail[00:01:16]
Then he spied a railroad goin' in his direction[00:01:19]
And he said better get there by rail[00:01:23]
He flew down the valley and he dodged through the canyon[00:01:30]
Keeping that train in his sight[00:01:34]
'Til the rails disappeared in a hole in the mountain[00:01:37]
That was the end of his flight[00:01:40]
It was Old 97 with her nose in the mountain[00:01:47]
Her wheels set akimbo on the track[00:01:51]
Yes her throttle was bent in forward position[00:01:54]
But the engine was facing straight back[00:01:58]
Oh ladies ladies take fair warning[00:02:04]
From this time now on[00:02:08]
Never speak harsh words to your high-flying pilot[00:02:11]
He may leave you and never return[00:02:14]
