The Original, Original Honky Tonk Night Train Blues

I'm the original honky tonk train [00:00:02]

I'm the one that you see [00:00:10]

When you're watching a western [00:00:11]

That's me chugging by [00:00:14]

Of the ones that you see in the films I'm the best [00:00:18]

I’ll tell you why [00:00:20]

Cause no other loco can ever compare [00:00:21]

With the places I’ve been 'cause I’ve been everywhere [00:00:23]

And I never once stopped for a moment of resting [00:00:25]

And if my fire's burning properly the hot air oughta [00:00:28]

Rise and go along a lot of tubes [00:00:34]

That are surrounded by water [00:00:37]

In the boiler till eventually it moves [00:00:40]

On down the engine's aorta [00:00:44]

Out to the funnel where the cloud of smoke exudes [00:00:48]

And now the hot air in the tubes has made [00:00:51]

The water in the boiler turn to steam hot hot hot [00:00:53]

The steam also rises and collects inside [00:00:59]

That large symbolic dome at the top [00:01:01]

Top top [00:01:04]

But if you think that now the steam is [00:01:06]

Just as hot as it is gonna get you're wrong [00:01:08]

Cause it's not not not [00:01:11]

Because this is where the driver opens up [00:01:13]

The regulator valve handle [00:01:17]

The steam becomes alive again [00:01:21]

And goes back through the boiler or can [00:01:24]

Which I call it only [00:01:28]

Cause I’ve a shortage of rhymes ending in an [00:01:30]

So having been through the superheater tubes [00:01:36]

The steam is hotter than ever [00:01:38]

It was before the heat is more [00:01:40]

You may be sure the steam now [00:01:42]

Passes on into the piston cylinder [00:01:43]

And pushes the piston for [00:01:47]

Wards and backwards by means of valves [00:01:50]

Which reciprocate in alternation [00:01:52]

According to simple mechanical law [00:01:54]

The piston then pushes connecting [00:01:57]

Rods fixed to the wheels [00:02:00]

That are set on the rails [00:02:03]

But that's not the end of the story [00:02:05]

Cause then all that steam [00:02:07]

As you will have seen [00:02:10]

Is blown out as exhaust [00:02:12]

Through the funnel whence it can expire [00:02:13]

Thereby increasing the draught of the fire [00:02:16]

So now apart from some rather superfluous detail [00:02:19]

Which doubtless will seem to you [00:02:21]

Obvious hardly worth saying [00:02:22]

The story's over in its basic essentials [00:02:25]

The rest is merely overlaying [00:02:28]

What you can see for yourself quite easily [00:02:33]

Although I would just like to mention the [00:02:35]

Thing on the front that always comes in handy [00:02:37]

When you want to catch cows[00:02:39]
