Missing In Action - Ernest Tubb[00:00:00]
Written by:Arthur Q. Smith/Helen Kaye[00:00:02]
The warships had landed and I come ashore[00:00:08]
The fighting was over for me evermore[00:00:15]
For I had been wounded they left me for dead[00:00:23]
A stone for my pillow and snow for my bed[00:00:29]
The enemy found me and took me away[00:00:37]
And made me a prisoner of war so they say[00:00:44]
But God in his mercy was with me one day[00:00:52]
The gate was left open and I ran away[00:00:58]
I returned to the old home my sweet wife to see[00:01:06]
The home I had built for my darling and me[00:01:13]
The door I then opened and there on a stand[00:01:21]
I saw a picture of her and a man[00:01:27]
The clothes she was wearing told me the sad tale[00:01:35]
My darling was wearing a new bridal veil[00:01:42]
Then I found a letter and these words I read[00:01:50]
Missing in action she thought I was dead[00:01:57]
So I kissed her picture and whispered goodbye[00:02:05]
My poor heart was breaking but my eyes were dry[00:02:11]
I knew it was too late for her now to learn[00:02:19]
I knew she must never know I had returned[00:02:26]
A vagabond dreamer forever I'll roam[00:02:34]
Because there was no one to welcome me home[00:02:41]
The face of my darling no more I shall see[00:02:49]
For missing in action forever I'll be[00:02:56]
