A Poem on the Underground Wall -Simon And Garfunkel[00:00:02]
The last train is nearly due[00:00:06]
The underground is closing soon[00:00:23]
And in the dark deserted station[00:00:26]
Restless in anticipation[00:00:28]
A man waits in the shadows[00:00:29]
His restless eyes leap and scratch[00:00:31]
At all that they can touch or catch[00:00:36]
And hidden deep within his pocket[00:00:38]
Safe within its silent socket[00:00:40]
He holds a colored crayon[00:00:41]
Now from the tunnel's stony womb[00:00:43]
The carriage rides to meet the groom[00:00:50]
And opens wide and welcome doors[00:00:52]
But he hesitates then withdraws[00:00:54]
Deeper in the shadows[00:00:56]
And the train is gone suddenly[00:00:57]
On wheels clicking silently[00:01:04]
Like a gently tapping litany[00:01:08]
And he holds his crayon rosary[00:01:12]
Tighter in his hand[00:01:16]
Now from his pocket quick he flashes[00:01:19]
The crayon on the wall he slashes[00:01:25]
Deep upon the advertising[00:01:27]
A single worded poem comprised[00:01:28]
Of four letters[00:01:30]
And his heart is laughing screaming pounding[00:01:31]
The poem across the tracks rebounding[00:01:35]
Shadowed by the exit light[00:01:37]
His legs take their ascending flight[00:01:39]
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night[00:01:41]
