The Old Kelly Place - Walter Brennan[00:00:00]
Written by:Cliff Crofford[00:00:02]
I guess there was a time I could have left[00:00:05]
This old place[00:00:07]
As a young man I longed to see more than[00:00:09]
Fields of corn[00:00:11]
I remember once I had a hundred dollars saved[00:00:14]
But dad needed it to put in this old farm[00:00:18]
He used to say son[00:00:23]
You got to put down roots[00:00:24]
Like I done and the kelly's before me[00:00:26]
He'd pick up a handful of that wore out dirty[00:00:30]
And I knowed I was in for this familiar old story[00:00:34]
You know that forty acres we got in corn this year[00:00:39]
Your great grand daddy cleared that land[00:00:44]
With two big mules and sweat and tears[00:00:48]
And a good woman who lent him a hand[00:00:52]
And when he give out before his time[00:00:57]
Them boys of his hand land of their own[00:01:01]
So you see all of this that I call mine[00:01:05]
Is more in the neighborhood of just a loan[00:01:09]
From father to son son[00:01:14]
Through a hundred years hundred years[00:01:16]
For generations still unknown[00:01:18]
Every kelly every kelly passin' through this way[00:01:23]
Through this way[00:01:26]
Will know this place know this place as home[00:01:27]
Yet dad had a way of tellin' that story[00:01:34]
Sorta kept me a lingerin' on[00:01:38]
While all my younger brothers drifted away one by one[00:01:42]
But I couldn't leave him alone[00:01:47]
And today when that oldest son of mine[00:01:51]
Got to talkin' about places he longed to see[00:01:56]
I told him once again that old familiar story[00:02:00]
Just the way it was told to me[00:02:05]
From father to son to son[00:02:08]
Through a hundred years hundred years[00:02:10]
For generations still unknown unknown[00:02:13]
Every kelly every kelly passin' passin' through this way[00:02:17]
Through this way[00:02:20]
Will know this place as home[00:02:23]
