Mungojerrie And Rumpelteazer(Original London Cast Recording / 1981)

Mungojerrie And Rumpelteazer - Andrew Lloyd Webber/Bonnie Langford/John Thornton[00:00:00]

Written by:Andrew Lloyd Webber/T.S. Eliot/Trevor Nunn/Richard Stilgoe[00:00:02]

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer[00:00:11]

We're a notorious couple of cats[00:00:13]

As knock about clowns quick change comedians[00:00:16]

Tight rope walkers and acrobats[00:00:19]

We had an extensive reputation[00:00:21]

We make our home in Victoria Grove[00:00:24]

This is merely our center of operation[00:00:27]

For we are incurably given to rove[00:00:30]

We are very well known in Cornwall Gardens[00:00:37]

In Launceston place[00:00:40]

And in Kensington Square[00:00:42]

We have really a little more reputation[00:00:43]

Than a couple of cats can very well bear[00:00:46]

If the area window is found a jar[00:00:53]

And the basement looks like a field of war[00:00:56]

If a tile or two comes loose on the roof[00:00:59]

Which presently fails to be waterproof[00:01:02]

If the drawers were pulled out from the bedroom chests[00:01:04]

And you couldn't find one of your winter vests[00:01:07]

If after supper one of the girls[00:01:10]

Suddenly missed her Woolworth pearls[00:01:13]

The family would say it's that horrible cat[00:01:16]

Was it Mungojerrie or Rumpelteazer[00:01:21]

And most of the time they leave it at that[00:01:28]

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer[00:01:41]

Have a very unusual gift of the gab[00:01:44]

We are highly efficient cat burglars as well[00:01:47]

And remarkably smart at a smash and grab[00:01:49]

We make our home in Victoria Grove[00:01:52]

We have no regular occupation[00:01:55]

We are plausible fellows who like to engage[00:01:57]

A friendly policeman in conversation[00:02:00]

When the family assembles for Sunday dinner[00:02:07]

With their minds made up that they wouldn't get thinner[00:02:10]

On Argentine joint potatoes and greens[00:02:13]

Then the cook will appear from behind the scenes[00:02:15]

And say in a voice that was broken with sorrow[00:02:18]

I'm afraid you must wait and have dinner tomorrow[00:02:21]

The joint has gone from the oven like that[00:02:23]

The family will say it's that horrible cat[00:02:26]

It was Mungojerrie or Rumpelteazer[00:02:31]

And most of the time they left it at that[00:02:38]

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer[00:02:41]

Have a wonderful way of working together[00:02:43]

And some of the time you would say it was luck[00:02:46]

And some of the time you would say it was weather[00:02:49]

We go through the house like a hurricane[00:02:51]

And no sober person could take his oath[00:02:54]

Was it Mungojerrie or Rumpelteazer[00:02:56]

Or could you have sworn that it mightn't be both[00:02:59]

And when you heard a dining room smash[00:03:02]

Or up from the pantry there came a loud crash[00:03:04]

Or down from the library there came a loud ping[00:03:07]

From a vase which was commonly said to be Ming[00:03:10]

Then the family would say now which was which cat[00:03:12]

It was Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer[00:03:17]

And there's nothing at all to be done about that[00:03:23]
