Pretty Boy Floyd - Woody Guthrie[00:00:00]
Written by:Trad;ArrGuthrie[00:00:00]
If you'll gather 'round me children[00:00:01]
A story I will tell[00:00:06]
'Bout Pretty Boy Floyd an outlaw[00:00:09]
Oklahoma knew him well[00:00:12]
It was in the town of Shawnee[00:00:16]
It was a Saturday afternoon[00:00:22]
His wife beside him in his wagon[00:00:26]
As into town they rode[00:00:29]
There a deputy sheriff approached him[00:00:35]
In a manner rather rude[00:00:40]
Vulgar words of anger[00:00:44]
An' his wife she overheard[00:00:48]
Pretty Boy grabbed a log chain[00:00:53]
And the deputy grabbed his gun[00:00:55]
In the fight that followed[00:00:57]
He laid that deputy down[00:00:59]
But a many a starving farmer[00:01:05]
The same old story told[00:01:12]
How the outlaw paid their mortgage[00:01:16]
And saved their little homes[00:01:20]
Others tell you 'bout a stranger[00:01:26]
That come to beg a meal[00:01:33]
Underneath his napkin[00:01:38]
Left a thousand dollar bill[00:01:42]
It was in Oklahoma City[00:01:47]
It was on a Christmas Day[00:01:55]
There was a whole car load of groceries[00:01:58]
Come with a note to say[00:02:02]
Well you say that I'm an outlaw[00:02:07]
You say that I'm a thief[00:02:09]
Here's a Christmas dinner[00:02:11]
For the families on relief[00:02:13]
Yes as through this world I've wandered[00:02:19]
I've seen lots of funny men[00:02:27]
Some will rob you with a six-gun[00:02:30]
And some with a fountain pen[00:02:34]
But as through your life you travel[00:02:39]
And as through your life you roam[00:02:45]
You won't never see an outlaw[00:02:50]
Drive a family from their home[00:02:56]
