San Angelo - Marty Robbins[00:00:00]
North of the border of Old Mexico[00:00:07]
I rode one day to the cowtown of San Angelo[00:00:10]
A hot sun was glowing a warm wind was blowing[00:00:17]
Still not as warm as the lips that I waited to kiss[00:00:20]
Cheeks that would blush in red roses to shame[00:00:27]
Lips that were fresher than flowers when kissed by the rain[00:00:30]
Dark eyes that sparkled much brighter than diamonds[00:00:37]
She was a beauty Socorro was my lovers name[00:00:41]
I met her down in Lorado[00:00:48]
Everyone there in this border town called her the 'Rose'[00:00:51]
Mexican cowboys drank to Socorro[00:00:58]
Everyone loved her but I was the one that she chose[00:01:01]
An outlaw above all the rest[00:01:06]
Now my heart beats so madly[00:01:08]
Soon she will be at my side[00:01:15]
She sent a message a long time ago[00:01:22]
Socorro had promised to meet me at San Angelo[00:01:25]
I was aware of the chance I was taking[00:01:32]
I was an outlaw but great was my love for this girl[00:01:35]
I must be with her I can't stay away[00:01:42]
Nights spent without her are lonely and so are the days[00:01:45]
If it means death then I'll have to chance it[00:01:52]
Only a few moments more and she'll be in my arms[00:01:55]
At ten o' clock in the morning[00:02:02]
I tied my horse and I started to walk down the street[00:02:06]
Where was Socorro had she forgotten[00:02:12]
This was the day and the hour that she wanted to meet[00:02:15]
But something is wrong with our plans[00:02:21]
And I fear death awaits me[00:02:23]
Here on this hot dusty street[00:02:29]
Up on a housetop but still I can see[00:02:36]
There hides a man with a rifle it's pointed at me[00:02:39]
I might escape from the man with a rifle[00:02:46]
But there are others just like him that I cannot see[00:02:49]
Back of each window the click of a gun[00:02:56]
Die if I stay and my love for her won't let me run[00:02:59]
Where is Socorro will my eyes see her[00:03:06]
Then in a moment she runs from a door down the street[00:03:10]
"Up on your horse" she is crying[00:03:16]
"Ride out of town it's a trap and they're waiting for you"[00:03:20]
But if I ride out she must ride with me[00:03:27]
Then in a moment I know that our chances are gone[00:03:30]
For a bullet is well on its way[00:03:35]
And it finds my Socorro[00:03:38]
She dies as she falls in my arms[00:03:43]
Tears dim my vision but plainly I see[00:03:51]
The ranger that killed her is standing there waiting for me[00:03:54]
I walk to meet him my one thought is 'Beat him'[00:04:01]
He deserves death and I swear that this ranger will die[00:04:04]
I beat his draw and I shot him[00:04:11]
Shot him six times just as fast as the bullets would fly[00:04:14]
My gun is empty or more I would shoot him[00:04:21]
Now there are others just like him that want me to die[00:04:24]
Their bullets are coming my way[00:04:29]
How they hurt when they hit me[00:04:32]
The pain makes me fall to the ground[00:04:38]
Gone is my strength just the will left to fight[00:04:45]
I hear the sound of the lead as it robs me of life[00:04:48]
If I must die let me find Socorro[00:04:55]
Let me hold on to her hand for the few moments left[00:04:58]
Blindly I search and it isn't in vain[00:05:05]
I touch the soft velvet hand and it eases the pain[00:05:08]
Life is no more but we're together[00:05:15]
Even in death she's my lover it's over goodbye[00:05:18]
