Matty - Christy Moore[00:00:02]
Matty went out on a frozen night[00:00:13]
Making heading for the pub his shoulders hunched up tight[00:00:15]
His head down on the railroad track[00:00:18]
And his old cow Delia sad lowin' him back[00:00:21]
He met with a dark and troubled man[00:00:25]
As he passed him by called back at him[00:00:28]
Hey Matty can't you see what's become of me[00:00:31]
In this country of the blind[00:00:34]
The house I've left is dead to me[00:00:37]
To me rhyming and my poetry[00:00:41]
All I've got is the beat of the stagger[00:00:44]
Heading down the Curragh Line[00:00:47]
But Matty passed on as quick as he could[00:00:51]
He couldn't stand such a crooked man sober[00:00:54]
All he wanted was the lights of the bar[00:00:57]
The Nightingale and the Wild Rover.[00:00:59]
When he came in[00:01:04]
They were sayin he was back[00:01:05]
OH did Delia drive you out[00:01:07]
With your spoutin' and your swearin'?[00:01:08]
We don't want to hear about Bunker Hayden[00:01:10]
Maybe you'll sing us the Girls of Kinkane.[00:01:13]
The fear an ti eyed him steadily[00:01:33]
As he handed him a pint of porter[00:01:36]
You must have seen the bishop's ghost tonight[00:01:38]
To put the dry look back in your eye.[00:01:41]
But Matty would not be taken in[00:01:45]
By their jibin' and their regalin'[00:01:48]
He found himself a fresh blown crew[00:01:51]
And fell in with their sportin' and their bailin'.[00:01:54]
As he was going home, in that very same spot[00:01:58]
He met his dark familiar[00:02:01]
He seen him comin' back down the line[00:02:05]
And he was bright and strange and fine.[00:02:08]
As he passed him by Matty threw out his arms[00:02:12]
Trying to grab hold of his likeness[00:02:16]
In the morning they found his frozen corpse[00:02:18]
And the butt of Curragh Line.[00:02:21]
And at the wake[00:02:26]
They were lashin' down[00:02:27]
The drops of brandy[00:02:28]
The old fashioned habit[00:02:32]
In the church they were lashin' down pounds and fivers[00:02:34]
So Matty would be fine in the old by and by.[00:02:36]
