But I think I can picture this j scribbling away[00:00:45]

And laughing although the first time[00:00:49]

I saw the bible re enacted was[00:00:52]

Sometime in the seventys[00:00:54]

And there was a cable tv show in the midwest and[00:00:56]

Bible study groups would act out parts of the bible[00:00:59]

But these were pretty low budget productions and[00:01:04]

Shot in a church basement or somebodys[00:01:06]

And all the prophets had towels wrapped around[00:01:10]

Their heads for turbansbut you could see the tags[00:01:13]

The ones with the washing instructions[00:01:17]

Of Sort sticking out and back there were very[00:01:19]

Few women on these tapes[00:01:22]

They tended to be the odd shepherdess[00:01:23]

Sort dancing girl bit part[00:01:25]

Then last year I was invited to perform in[00:01:28]

Israel and I was very excited because[00:01:31]

I wanted to see jerusalem where this mysterious[00:01:33]

J had spent her life writing and working and[00:01:37]

The gulf war had made me even more curious[00:01:41]

So I did some asking aroundsome informal research[00:01:44]

And I talked to an israeli woman who was living in[00:01:49]

New york and she was really having a hard time[00:01:51]

Living there and she was always complaining[00:01:54]

About american men and say[00:01:58]

You know american men are such wimps[00:02:00]

I mean they're always talking about their feelings[00:02:05]

And I said they are[00:02:09]

And she said she really liked israeli men because[00:02:12]

They were so tough and because[00:02:15]

They all had guns and I said[00:02:16]

Gunsyou like guys with guns[00:02:18]

And she said she did and went on about how terrible[00:02:20]

It was that clinton wanted to reduce the army[00:02:22]

And she was so animate about this that[00:02:26]

I started to get kind of worried yeah[00:02:27]

Thought yeah I that's true what are all these[00:02:29]

Military people going to do when they lose their jobs[00:02:31]

And then I thought wellhang on weve[00:02:34]

Got all these service industries now[00:02:37]

Things like psychotherapy and the military[00:02:39]

Approach to psychotherapy[00:02:42]

Would really be kind of perfect[00:02:43]

Really efficient and fastyou know listen[00:02:45]

You are nothing you are a wormand if you[00:02:47]

Don't get that mother complex out[00:02:51]

By o four hours you are dead meat[00:02:52]
