Feleena - Marty Robbins[00:00:00]
Out in New Mexico many long years ago[00:00:08]
There in a shack on the desert [00:00:11]
One night in a storm[00:00:14]
Amid streaks of lightning and loud desert thunder[00:00:19]
To a young Mexican couple a baby was born[00:00:23]
Just as the baby cried [00:00:30]
Thunder and lightning died[00:00:32]
Moon gave it's light to the world[00:00:34]
And the stars did the same[00:00:36]
Mother and father both proud of the daughter[00:00:41]
That Heaven had sent them [00:00:45]
Feleena was this baby's name[00:00:47]
When she was seventeen [00:00:53]
Bothered by crazy dreams[00:00:55]
She ran away from the shack[00:00:56]
And left them to roam[00:00:59]
Father and mother both asked one another[00:01:04]
What made her run away [00:01:08]
What made Feleena leave home[00:01:09]
Tired of the desert nights [00:01:15]
Fatherly grieved to strife[00:01:17]
She ran away late one night[00:01:19]
In the moon's golden gleam[00:01:21]
She didn't know where[00:01:26]
She'd go but she'd get there[00:01:28]
And she would find happiness[00:01:30]
If she would follow her dream[00:01:32]
After she ran away she went to Santa Fe[00:01:37]
And in the year that she stayed there [00:01:41]
She learned about life[00:01:43]
In just a little while[00:01:48]
She learned that with a smile[00:01:50]
She could have pretty clothes [00:01:52]
She could be any man's wife[00:01:54]
Rich men romanced her [00:02:00]
They dined and they danced her[00:02:01]
She understood men[00:02:03]
And she treated them all just the same[00:02:05]
A form that was fine and rare [00:02:10]
Dark shining glossy hair[00:02:12]
Lovely to look at [00:02:14]
Feleena was this woman's name[00:02:16]
Restless in Santa Fe [00:02:22]
She had to get away[00:02:24]
To any town where[00:02:26]
The lights had a much brighter glow[00:02:27]
One cowboy mentioned the town of El Paso[00:02:33]
They never stopped dancing[00:02:37]
And money like whiskey would flow[00:02:38]
She bought one way a ticket from Santa Fe[00:02:44]
Three days and nights on a stage[00:02:48]
With a rest now and then[00:02:50]
She didn't mind that[00:02:55]
She knew she would find that[00:02:57]
Her new life would be more exciting[00:02:58]
Than where she had been[00:03:01]
The stage made it's last stop [00:03:06]
Up there on the mountain top[00:03:08]
To let her see all the lights[00:03:10]
At the foot of the hill[00:03:12]
Her world was brighter and deep down inside her[00:03:17]
An uncontrolled beating her young heart[00:03:21]
Just wouldn't be still[00:03:23]
She got a hotel room at the Lily Belle[00:03:28]
Quickly she changed to a form[00:03:32]
Fitting black satin dress[00:03:34]
Every man stopped to stare [00:03:39]
At this form fine and rare[00:03:41]
Even the women remarked[00:03:43]
Of the charm she possessed[00:03:45]
Dancing and laughter was what she was after[00:03:51]
And Rosa's Cantina had lights[00:03:54]
With love in the gleam[00:03:57]
That's what she hunted and[00:04:02]
That's what she wanted[00:04:03]
Rosa's was one place [00:04:05]
A nice girl would never be seen[00:04:07]
It was the same way [00:04:12]
It was back in Santa Fe[00:04:14]
Men would make fools of themselves[00:04:16]
At the thought of romance[00:04:18]
Rosa took heed of the place was in need of[00:04:24]
This kind of excitement [00:04:27]
So she paid Feleena to dance[00:04:29]
A year passed and maybe more[00:04:34]
And then through the swinging doors[00:04:36]
Came a young cowboy so tall[00:04:38]
And so handsomely dressed[00:04:40]
This one was new in town [00:04:45]
Hadn't been seen around[00:04:47]
He was so different [00:04:49]
He wasn't like all of the rest[00:04:51]
Feleena danced close to him [00:04:56]
Then threw a rose to him[00:04:58]
Quickly he walked to her table[00:05:00]
And there he sat down[00:05:02]
And in a day or so [00:05:07]
Wherever folks would go[00:05:09]
They'd see this young cowboy [00:05:11]
Showing Feleena the town[00:05:13]
Six weeks he went with her [00:05:18]
Each minute spent with her[00:05:20]
But he was insanely jealous of[00:05:22]
Glances she'd give[00:05:25]
Inside he was a hurting [00:05:29]
From all of her flirting[00:05:31]
That was her nature and[00:05:33]
That was the way that she lived[00:05:35]
She flirted one night it started a gun fight[00:05:40]
And after the smoke cleared away[00:05:44]
On the floor lay a man[00:05:46]
Feleena's young lover had shot down another[00:05:51]
And he had to leave there [00:05:55]
So out through the back door he ran[00:05:56]
The next day at five o'clock [00:06:02]
She heart a rifle shot[00:06:04]
Quickly she ran to the door[00:06:06]
That was facing the pass[00:06:08]
She saw her cowboy her wild riding cowboy[00:06:13]
Low in the saddle her cowboy was riding in fast[00:06:17]
She ran to meet him to kiss and to greet him[00:06:24]
He saw her and motioned[00:06:28]
Her back with a wave of his hand[00:06:30]
Bullets were flying [00:06:35]
Feleena was crying[00:06:37]
As she saw him fall from[00:06:39]
The saddle and into the sand[00:06:41]
Feleena knelt near him to hold and to hear him[00:06:46]
When she felt the warm blood[00:06:50]
That flowed from the wound in his side[00:06:52]
He raised to kiss her and she heard him whisper[00:06:57]
"Never forget me Feleena it's over goodbye"[00:07:01]
Quickly she grabbed for[00:07:08]
The six gun that he wore[00:07:10]
And screaming in anger and[00:07:12]
Placing the gun to her breast[00:07:14]
Bury us both deep and maybe we'll find peace[00:07:19]
And pulling the trigger [00:07:23]
She fell cross the dead cowboy's chest[00:07:24]
Out in El Paso whenever the wind blows[00:07:30]
If you listen closely at night [00:07:34]
You'll hear in the wind[00:07:36]
A woman is crying [00:07:41]
It's not the wind sighing[00:07:42]
Old timer's tell you [00:07:45]
Feleena is calling for him[00:07:46]
You'll hear them talking[00:07:52]
And you'll hear them walking[00:07:53]
You'll hear them laugh[00:07:56]
And you'll look but there's no one around[00:07:57]
Don't be alarmed there is really no harm there[00:08:03]
It's only the young cowboy [00:08:06]
Showing Feleena the town[00:08:09]
