Talkin’ World War III Blues

One time ago a crazy dream came to me[00:00:20]

I dreamt I was walkin' into World War Three[00:00:22]

Went to the doctor the very next day[00:00:26]

To see what kinda words he could say[00:00:28]

He said "It was a bad dream"[00:00:30]

I wouldn't worry 'bout it none though[00:00:34]

They were my own dreams[00:00:35]

Were only in your head[00:00:36]

I said "Hold it Doc a World War[00:00:49]

Passed through my brain"[00:00:50]

He said "Nurse get your pad the boy's insane"[00:00:51]

He grabbed my arm I said "Ouch "[00:00:57]

As I landed on the psychiatric couch[00:00:59]

He said "Tell me about it"[00:01:02]

Well the whole thing started at three o'clock fast[00:01:12]

It was all over by quarter past[00:01:14]

I was down in the sewer with some little lover[00:01:18]

When I peeked out from a manhole cover[00:01:20]

Wondering who turned the lights on us[00:01:24]

Well I got up and I walked around[00:01:36]

Up and down the lonesome town[00:01:38]

I stood on wondering which way to go[00:01:43]

I lit a cigarette on a parking meter[00:01:45]

And walked on down the road it was a normal day[00:01:47]

Well I rung me fallout shelter bell[00:02:03]

And I leaned my head and I gave a yell[00:02:05]

Give me a string bean I'm a hungry man[00:02:08]

Shotgun fired and away I ran[00:02:11]

I don't blame them too much though [00:02:14]

They didn't know me[00:02:16]

Down the corner by the hot-dog stand[00:02:27]

I seen a man I said Howdy friend[00:02:30]

I guess there's just us two[00:02:33]

He screamed a bit and away he flew[00:02:35]

Thought I was a Communist[00:02:39]

Well I spied me a girl before she could leave[00:03:00]

I said Let's go play Adam and Eve[00:03:02]

I took her by the hand and my heart was thumpin'[00:03:06]

When she said Hey man you crazy or something[00:03:08]

You seen what happened last time they started[00:03:14]

Well I seen me a Cadillac window uptown[00:03:33]

There was nobody around[00:03:36]

I got into the driver's seat[00:03:38]

And I drove down 42nd street in my Cadillac[00:03:40]

Good car to drive after a war[00:03:46]

Well I remember seein' some ad[00:04:03]

So I turned on my Conelrad[00:04:06]

But I didn't pay the Con Ed bill[00:04:07]

So the radio didn't work so well [00:04:10]

Turned on my record player[00:04:13]

It was Rock-A-Day Johnny singin' [00:04:17]

Tell your ma tell your pa[00:04:19]

Our loves are gonna grow ooh wah ooh wah[00:04:22]

I was feelin' kinda lonesome and blue[00:04:39]

I needed somebody to talk to[00:04:41]

So I called up the operator of time just[00:04:44]

To hear a voice of some kind[00:04:47]

When you hear the beep it will be three o'clock[00:04:52]

She said that for over an hour and I hung up[00:04:55]

Well the doctor interrupted me just about then[00:05:11]

Sayin' "Hey I've been havin' the same old dreams[00:05:13]

But mine was a little different you see[00:05:17]

I dreamt the only person left after the war was me[00:05:20]

I didn't see you around[00:05:24]

Well now time passed and now it seems[00:05:34]

Everybody's having them dreams[00:05:37]

Everybody sees their self walkin' around with no one else[00:05:40]

Half the people can be part right all of the time and[00:05:48]

Some of the people can be all right part of the time but[00:05:53]

All the people can't be all alright all of the time[00:05:57]

I think Abraham Lincoln said that[00:06:01]

I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours[00:06:06]

I said that[00:06:08]
