Out in New Mexico many long years ago [00:00:07]
There in a shack on the desert one night in a storm [00:00:11]
Amid streaks of lightning and loud desert thunder [00:00:19]
To a young Mexican couple a baby was born [00:00:22]
Just as the baby cried thunder and lightning died [00:00:30]
Moon gave it's light to the world and the stars did the same [00:00:33]
Mother and father both proud of the daughter [00:00:41]
That heaven had sent them Felena was this baby's name [00:00:45]
When she was seventeen bothered by crazy dreams [00:00:53]
She ran away from the shack and left them to roam [00:00:56]
Father and mother both asked one another [00:01:03]
What made her run away what made Felena leave home [00:01:08]
Tired of the desert nights fartherly grieved to strife [00:01:14]
She ran away late one night in the moon's golden beam [00:01:18]
She didn't know where she'd go but she'd get there [00:01:26]
And she would find happiness if she would follow her dream [00:01:29]
After she ran away she went to Santa Fe [00:01:37]
And in the year that she stayed there she learned about life [00:01:41]
In just a little while she learned that with her smile [00:01:48]
She could have pretty clothes she could be any man's wife [00:01:52]
Rich men romanced her they dined and they danced her [00:01:59]
She understood men and she treated them all just the same [00:02:03]
A form that was fine and rare dark shining glossy hair [00:02:10]
Lovely to look at Felena was this woman's name [00:02:14]
Restless in Santa Fe she had to get away [00:02:22]
To any town where the lights had a much brighter glow [00:02:25]
One cowboy mentioned the town of El Paso [00:02:32]
They never stopped dancing and money like whiskey would flow [00:02:36]
She bought a one way a ticket from Santa Fe [00:02:44]
Three days and nights on a stage with a rest now and then [00:02:47]
She didn't mind that she knew she would find that [00:02:55]
Her new life would be more exciting than where she had been [00:02:58]
The stage made it's last stop up there on the mountain top [00:03:06]
To let her see all the lights at the foot of the hill [00:03:10]
Her world was brighter and deep down inside her [00:03:17]
An uncontrolled beating her young heart just wouldn't be still [00:03:21]
She got a hotel a room at the Lily Belle [00:03:28]
Quickly she changed to a form fitting black satin dress [00:03:32]
Every man stopped to stare at this form fine and rare [00:03:39]
Even the women remarked of the charm she possessed [00:03:43]
Dancing and laughter was what she was after [00:03:50]
And Rosa's Cantina had lights with love in the gleam [00:03:54]
That's what she hunted and that's what she wanted [00:04:01]
Rosa's was one place a nice girl would never be seen [00:04:05]
It was the same way it was back in Santa Fe [00:04:12]
Men would make fools of themselves at the thought of romance [00:04:16]
Rosa took heed of the place was in need of [00:04:23]
This kind of excitement so she paid Felena to dance [00:04:26]
A year passed or maybe more and then through the swinging doors [00:04:34]
Came a young cowboy so tall and so handsomely dressed [00:04:38]
This one was new in town hadn't been seen around [00:04:45]
He was so different he wasn't like all of the rest [00:04:49]
Feleena danced close to him then threw a rose to him [00:04:56]
Quickly he walked to her table and there he sat down [00:05:00]
And in a day or so wherever folks would go [00:05:07]
They'd see this young cowboy showing Felena the town [00:05:10]
Six weeks he went with her each minute spent with her [00:05:18]
But he was insanely jealous of glances she'd give [00:05:22]
Inside he was a hurting from all of her flirting [00:05:29]
But that was her nature and that was the way that she lived [00:05:33]
She flirted one night it started a gun fight [00:05:40]
And after the smoke cleared away on the floor lay a man [00:05:43]
Felena's young lover had shot down another [00:05:51]
And he had to leave there so out through the back door he ran [00:05:54]
The next day at five o'clock she heard a rifle shot [00:06:02]
Quickly she ran to the door that was facing the pass [00:06:06]
She saw her cowboy her wild riding cowboy [00:06:13]
Low in the saddle her cowboy was riding in fast [00:06:17]
She ran to meet him to kiss and to greet him [00:06:24]
He saw her and motioned her back with a wave of his hand [00:06:28]
Bullets were flying Felena was crying [00:06:35]
As she saw him fall from the saddle and into the sand [00:06:38]
Felena knelt near him to hold and to hear him [00:06:46]
As she felt the warm blood that flowed from the wound in his side [00:06:50]
He raised to kiss her and she heard him whisper [00:06:57]
Never forget me Felena it's over goodbye [00:07:01]
Quickly she grabbed for the six gun that he wore [00:07:08]
And screaming in anger and placing the gun to her breast [00:07:11]
Bury us both deep and maybe we'll find peace [00:07:19]
And pulling the trigger she fell cross the dead cowboy's chest [00:07:24]
Out in El Paso whenever the wind blows [00:07:30]
If you listen closely at night you'll hear in the wind [00:07:33]
A woman is crying it's not the wind sighing [00:07:41]
Old timer's tell you Felena is calling for him [00:07:44]
You'll hear them talking and you'll hear them walking [00:07:52]
You'll hear them laugh and you'll look but there's no one around [00:07:56]
Don't be alarmed there is really no harm there [00:08:03]
It's only the young cowboy showing Felena the town [00:08:06]
