Mary Of The Wild Moor - The Louvin Brothers[00:00:00]
Written by:Traditional/Dennis Turner[00:00:00]
It was on one cold winter night[00:00:05]
When the wind blew across the wild moor[00:00:10]
When Mary came wandering home with her child[00:00:16]
Till she came to her own father's door[00:00:21]
Father dear father she cried[00:00:27]
Come down and open the door[00:00:31]
Or the child in my arms will perish and die[00:00:37]
From the winds that blow across the wild moor[00:00:42]
Why did I leave this fair spot[00:00:47]
Where once I was happy and free[00:00:52]
I am now tune to roam without friends or a home[00:00:58]
And no one to take pity on me[00:01:03]
But her father was deaf to her cry[00:01:14]
Not a sound of her voice did he hear[00:01:19]
So the watch dog did howl and the village bells tolled[00:01:24]
And the wind blew across the wild moor[00:01:30]
Oh how the old man must have felt[00:01:35]
When he came to the door the next morning[00:01:41]
And he found Mary dead but the child still alive[00:01:46]
Closely grasping his dead mother's arms[00:01:52]
In anger she tore his gray hair[00:01:57]
And the tears down his cheeks they did pour[00:02:02]
When he saw how that nit she had perished and died[00:02:08]
From the wind that blew across the wild moor[00:02:13]
In grief the old man passed away[00:02:24]
And the child to it's mother went soon[00:02:29]
And no one they say have lives there to this day[00:02:35]
And the cottage to ruin has gone[00:02:40]
But the villagers point out the spot[00:02:46]
Where the willows grew over the door[00:02:51]
Saying there Mary died once the gay village bride[00:02:57]
From the wind that blow across the wild moor[00:03:02]
