Battle of New Orleans - Lonnie Donegan[00:00:00]
Written by:Trad Driftwood[00:00:00]
Well in 1814 we took a little trip[00:00:33]
Along with Colonel Packenham down the mighty Mississipp'[00:00:37]
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans[00:00:40]
And we fought the bloomin' British in the town of New Orleans[00:00:43]
Well we fired our guns and the British kept a comin'[00:00:45]
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago[00:00:48]
We fired once more and they began a running[00:00:51]
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico yeh[00:00:54]
Well we looked down the river till we see the British come[00:01:02]
There must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum[00:01:05]
They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring[00:01:08]
Well we stood beside our cotton bales and never sayed a thing[00:01:11]
Well we fired our guns and the British kept a comin'[00:01:14]
And there wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago[00:01:17]
We fired once more and they began a running[00:01:20]
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:01:23]
Ederum a ohderum a ederum a ohderum[00:01:26]
Well Packenham said we could take em by surprise[00:01:31]
If we didn't fire a musket till we looked 'em in the eyes[00:01:34]
Well we stood quite still till we see their faces well[00:01:39]
Then we opened up our muskets and we really gave 'em[00:01:42]
Well we fired our guns and the British kept a comin'[00:01:45]
And there wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago[00:01:48]
And we fired once more and they began a running[00:01:51]
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:01:54]
Weeeeell they rrraan through the briars and they ran through the brambles[00:02:01]
And they ran through the bushes where the rabbits couldn't go[00:02:05]
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em[00:02:08]
All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:02:11]
Well we fired our guns and the British kept a comin'[00:02:14]
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago[00:02:17]
We fired once more and they began a running[00:02:19]
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico ah ha tiddly dee[00:02:22]
Well we fired our muskets so the barrels melted down[00:02:31]
Then grabbed an alligator and we fought another round[00:02:33]
Well we stuffed his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind[00:02:39]
So when we touched the powder off the 'gator lost his mind[00:02:42]
Well we fired our guns and the British kept a comin'[00:02:44]
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago[00:02:48]
We fired once more and they began a running[00:02:50]
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:02:53]
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:02:56]
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:02:59]
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:03:02]
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico[00:03:04]
