There was an esteemed Lakota elder[00:00:34]
A man of visions who laid dying at his home[00:00:37]
Surrounded by his family and friends[00:00:41]
His journey on this earth was fast coming to an end[00:00:44]
One by one they touched his hands stroked his silver hair[00:00:49]
Sang him songs and kissed him on his brow[00:00:55]
His mind wandered between this world and the unseen[00:01:00]
Some thought it was the fever talking[00:01:05]
But his sister knowing his gift of visions[00:01:08]
Summoned the Medicine man to come and pray for his comfort[00:01:10]
And to listen to his words[00:01:15]
When he arrived the elder asked the Holy Man to bring him his pipe[00:01:18]
A family member handed the Medicine Man his pipe[00:01:24]
And he granted the dying man's request[00:01:27]
When he placed it in his arms he closed his eyes[00:01:30]
And softly whispered[00:01:35]
"Twenty years from this day I see blood and countless tears[00:01:39]
Flowing across the ground of Wounded Knee[00:01:44]
It is not clear to me why so many people will die[00:01:48]
Not only our warriors but our women our children [00:01:51]
The young and the old even the four leggeds[00:01:56]
They too will be murdered[00:02:00]
All will be buried as one in an icy cold grave[00:02:04]
There will be no punishment to the murders of our people[00:02:08]
Only the dreams they see at night will be their torture[00:02:13]
And their sentence of shame[00:02:17]
This is my vision[00:02:20]
My time has now come and I have but one final request[00:02:24]
When I draw my last breath[00:02:30]
Take me to Wounded Knee and bury me there[00:02:33]
For it is there that I wish for my spirit to linger[00:02:37]
Long enough to warn the others of this great tragedy that[00:02:41]
Our future holds "[00:02:45]
