Giddy Up, Go - Tex Williams/Red Simpson[00:00:00]
The highways that wind and wander over mountain and valleys deserts and plains[00:00:13]
I guess I've drove about all of 'em[00:00:20]
Cause for the past 25 years[00:00:24]
Now the cab of a truck has been my home[00:00:26]
And it'd be kinda hard for me to settle down[00:00:30]
And not be on the go[00:00:34]
Why I remember the first truck I drove[00:00:37]
I was so proud I could hardly wait to get home to show my wife[00:00:40]
And my little boy[00:00:44]
And my little boy was so excited like when he saw his first snow[00:00:46]
He wasn't old enough to say too many words[00:00:52]
He just kept hollering goddyup go daddy giddyup go[00:00:54]
So that's what I named the old truck giddyup go[00:00:59]
Oh things wasn't too bad of course I's gone a lot[00:01:02]
And after about six years be in an hour I got home one day[00:01:09]
And found my wife and little boy gone[00:01:17]
I couldn't find out what happened nobody seemed to know[00:01:20]
So from that day on it's been me and old giddyup go[00:01:24]
I've made a lot of friends at all the truck stops[00:01:33]
And some of 'em would kick me about my litle sign[00:01:37]
Of course they knew where I got the name[00:01:41]
Cause I told 'em about that little boy [00:01:44]
And how his first word about that old truck was giddyup go[00:01:48]
Today I was barrelin' down old 66[00:01:50]
When up beside me pulled down a brand new diesel rig[00:01:58]
Both stacks of blowing' black coal[00:02:02]
And as she pulled around and in front of me[00:02:05]
A big lump came in my throat[00:02:08]
My eyes watered like I had a bad old cold[00:02:11]
A little sign on the back of the truck read giddyup go[00:02:16]
Well I pushed old giddyup go stayed right on him[00:02:23]
Until the next truck stop where he'd pulled up[00:02:27]
And I waited till he went in and I offered to buy him a cup[00:02:31]
And we got to talking' shop and I said[00:02:37]
Now did you come by the name on your truck giddyup go[00:02:40]
Well you know I got it from my pop[00:02:45]
See dad used to drive a truck that's what mom talked about a lot[00:02:49]
You see I lost mom when I was just past sixteen and[00:02:53]
I lost all track of pop[00:02:59]
Mom said he got the name from me[00:03:01]
I shook his hand and told him that I had something[00:03:05]
I wanted him to see[00:03:10]
So I took him out to the old truck[00:03:12]
And brushed off some of the dirt so the name would show[00:03:15]
And his eyes got big and bright as he read the word giddyup go[00:03:19]
Oh we had a lot of things to talk about and[00:03:25]
Buddy I felt like a king[00:03:31]
And now we've just pulled back on old 66 and he's handled that big rig[00:03:33]
Better than any gear jammer that I'd ever seen[00:03:40]
And now the lines on the highway have got much brighter glow[00:03:46]
As we go roarin' down the road and me starin' at a little sign[00:03:52]
That reads giddyup go[00:03:59]
