The Story of the First Christmas

The Story Of The First Christmas (See Description) - Perry Como[00:00:00]

This is Perry Como[00:00:30]

And I'd like to tell you the most wonderful the most beautiful[00:00:31]

The most exciting story in the whole world[00:00:34]

The story of the first Christmas[00:00:38]

Now suppose you make believe this is many many years ago[00:00:44]

A long time before you were born[00:00:46]

You're standing on a hillside near a little town in Palestine[00:00:49]

Do you see the man in the distance walking slowly leading a donkey[00:00:54]

His name is Joseph[00:00:59]

Someone is sitting on the back of the donkey[00:01:02]

And her name is Mary[00:01:05]

They've come a long long way[00:01:08]

And they're heading for a little town near the hillside[00:01:10]

On which we're standing[00:01:13]

Something very special will happen in this little town tonight[00:01:16]

For this is the little town of Bethlehem[00:01:20]

Oh little town of Bethlehem[00:01:32]

How still we see thee lie[00:01:38]

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep[00:01:44]

The silent stars go by[00:01:50]

Yet in thy dark streets shineth[00:01:58]

The everlasting light[00:02:04]

The hopes and fears of all the years[00:02:10]

Are met in thee tonight[00:02:18]

Let's follow Joseph and Mary into the town of Bethlehem[00:02:31]

It's getting dark and all of the rooms at the inn are taken[00:02:36]

But the kindly innkeeper tells them[00:02:39]

They could spend the night at a stable nearby[00:02:41]

Now I told you something was gonna happen[00:02:45]

And it did[00:02:48]

A baby boy is born to Mary and Joseph[00:02:49]

Whom they call Jesus[00:02:52]

They have no baby's crib so Mary puts little Jesus to sleep[00:02:55]

In the soft sweet hay of a manger[00:02:59]

Come come come to the manger[00:03:03]

Children sing and asleep on the hay[00:03:07]

Sing sing chorus of Angels[00:03:12]

Little Lord Jesus is born on this day[00:03:18]

Jesus is asleep in the manger[00:03:29]

So let's tiptoe out to the hillside near Bethlehem[00:03:31]

Where the shepherds are tending their flock[00:03:34]

All at once the Shepherds are frightened[00:03:38]

You'd be frightened too[00:03:40]

Because a great light suddenly shines in the sky[00:03:41]

Even the animals are hushed and still[00:03:49]

But then you hear the voice of an Angel of the Lord[00:03:52]

And you're no longer frightened[00:04:01]

For the Angel brings good news[00:04:02]

News of a saviour born this day[00:04:05]

News of Christ the Lord[00:04:08]

The First Noel the Angels did say[00:04:13]

Was to certain poor Shepherds[00:04:21]

In fields as they lay in fields where they[00:04:24]

Lay keeping their sheep[00:04:32]

On a cold winter's night that was so deep[00:04:36]

Noel Noel Noel Noel[00:04:43]

Born is the King of Israel[00:04:52]

Well we're still with the Shepherds[00:05:08]

On the hillside near Bethlehem[00:05:09]

We hear the Shepherds ask the Angel[00:05:12]

Where to find the Christ child[00:05:14]

And the Angel tells them to go to the manger[00:05:16]

And as they leave the sky is filled with other Angels singing[00:05:20]

Glory to God and on earth peace goodwill to men[00:05:24]

Ah[00:05:29]

The Shepherds hurry to the manger[00:05:38]

Fall on their knees before the baby[00:05:39]

And they worship him[00:05:41]

For he is Christ the Lord[00:05:44]

Oh come all ye faithful[00:05:49]

Joyful and triumphant[00:05:56]

Oh come ye oh come ye to Bethlehem[00:06:00]

Come and behold him[00:06:14]

Born the king of Angels[00:06:19]

Oh come let us adore him[00:06:25]

Oh come let us adore him[00:06:32]

Oh come let us adore him[00:06:40]

Christ the Lord[00:06:48]

And now look up into the sky[00:07:02]

Do you see that bright star twinkling in the heavens[00:07:03]

Far away three men are looking at that star just as we are[00:07:07]

They're riding on camels[00:07:11]

And they're using the star as a guide to lead them to the Christ child[00:07:14]

Who are these three men who follow the star[00:07:19]

We Three Kings of Orient are[00:07:24]

Bearing gifts we traverse afar[00:07:28]

Field and fountain moor and mountain[00:07:32]

Following yonder star[00:07:39]

Yes the three men on the camels are the three wise men[00:07:48]

The new star guides them straight to Bethlehem[00:07:52]

To a little baby lying in a manger[00:07:55]

There the three wise men present gifts to the Christ child[00:07:58]

The first Christmas gifts ever given to anyone[00:08:02]

A gift of gold[00:08:06]

Of frankincense and of mir[00:08:09]

And they too fall on their knees to worship him[00:08:14]

And now a great peace settles on the night[00:08:17]

For it is the holy night[00:08:21]

Silent night holy night[00:08:24]

All is calm all is bright[00:08:34]

'Round yon virgin mother and child[00:08:46]

Holy infant so tender and mild[00:08:54]

Sleep in heavenly peace[00:09:04]

Sleep in heavenly peace[00:09:15]

This is why when we celebrate Christmas[00:09:27]

We think of Bethlehem[00:09:29]

We think of the Virgin Mary[00:09:31]

We think of the three wise men[00:09:34]

And the birth of the Christ child[00:09:36]

The first Christmas[00:09:39]

Oh come let us adore him[00:09:41]

Christ the Lord[00:09:48]
