The Lion And Albert - Stanley Holloway[00:00:00]
There's a famous seaside place called Blackpool[00:00:12]
That's noted for fresh air and fun[00:00:16]
And Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom[00:00:18]
Went there with young Alberttheir son[00:00:21]
A grand little lad was their Albert[00:00:24]
All dressed in his best quite a swell[00:00:27]
E'd a stick with an orse's ead andle[00:00:30]
The finest that Woolworth's could sell[00:00:33]
They didn't think much to the ocean[00:00:36]
The waves they was fiddlin and small[00:00:39]
There was no wrecks nobody drownded[00:00:43]
Fact nothing to laugh at at all[00:00:47]
So seeking for further amusement[00:00:50]
They paid and went into the zoo[00:00:53]
Where they'd lions and tigers and cam els[00:00:56]
And old ale and sandwiches too[00:00:59]
There were one great big lion called Wallace[00:01:03]
His nose were all covered with scars[00:01:07]
He lay in a som no lent posture[00:01:11]
With the side of his face to the bars[00:01:14]
Now Albert had heard about lions[00:01:18]
How they were ferocious and wild[00:01:20]
And to see Wallace lying so peaceful[00:01:24]
Well it didn't seem right to the child[00:01:27]
So straight way the brave little feller[00:01:31]
Not showing a morsel of fear[00:01:34]
Took is stick with the orse's ead andle[00:01:37]
And pushed it in Wallace's ear[00:01:41]
You could see that the lion didn't like it[00:01:44]
For giving a kind of a roll[00:01:48]
He pulled Albert inside the cage with im[00:01:51]
And swallowed the little lad whole[00:01:55]
Then Pa who had seen the occurrence[00:01:59]
And didn't know what to do next[00:02:02]
Said Mother Yon lions et Albert[00:02:05]
And Mother said Eeh I am vexed[00:02:10]
So Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom[00:02:16]
Quite rightly when all's said and done[00:02:18]
Complained to the Animal Keeper[00:02:21]
That the lion had eaten their son[00:02:24]
The keeper was quite nice about it[00:02:27]
He said What a nasty mishap[00:02:31]
Are you sure that it's your lad he's eaten[00:02:34]
Pa said Am I sure There's his cap[00:02:38]
So the manager had to be sent for[00:02:43]
He came and he said What's to do[00:02:46]
Pa said Yon lion's eaten our Albert[00:02:49]
And im in his Sunday clothes too[00:02:52]
Then Mother said Right's right young feller[00:02:56]
I think it's a shame and a sin[00:03:00]
For a lion to go and eat Albert[00:03:02]
And after we've paid to come in[00:03:05]
The manager wanted no trouble[00:03:09]
He took out his purse right away[00:03:11]
And said How much to settle the matter[00:03:15]
And Pa said What do you usually pay[00:03:18]
But Mother had turned a bit awkward[00:03:21]
When she thought where her Albert had gone[00:03:24]
She said No someone's got to be summonsed[00:03:27]
So that were decided upon[00:03:31]
Round they went to the Police Station[00:03:34]
In front of a Magistrate chap[00:03:37]
They told im what happened to Albert[00:03:40]
And proved it by showing his cap[00:03:42]
The Magistrate gave his o pinion[00:03:45]
That no one was really to blame[00:03:49]
He said that he hoped the Ramsbottoms[00:03:53]
Would have further sons to their name[00:03:55]
At that Mother got proper blazing[00:04:00]
And thank you sir kindly said she[00:04:03]
What waste all our lives raising children[00:04:06]
To feed ruddy lions Not me[00:04:10]
