B.J. The D.J. - Stonewall Jackson[00:00:00]
Written by:Hugh Lewis[00:00:01]
A story about a pal of mine who worked[00:00:06]
Down near the Georgia line[00:00:09]
A DJ in a little country station[00:00:12]
Everybody loved him dear[00:00:18]
He played what they liked to hear[00:00:20]
He built himself a quite a reputation[00:00:23]
At record hops he stayed out late[00:00:28]
And his mom would always wait[00:00:31]
To see if he had made it home alive[00:00:33]
She warned against his loss of sleep[00:00:39]
And driving fast in that old heap[00:00:42]
And that he had to be at work by five[00:00:44]
BJ the DJ you're living much too fast[00:00:50]
And if you don't change[00:00:55]
Your ways don't see how you can last[00:00:57]
Every morning just past four from[00:01:02]
The driveway he would roar[00:01:05]
Overslept and he was late again[00:01:07]
Then at breakneck speed[00:01:13]
He'd drive to sign the station on at five[00:01:15]
He had lots of records he must spin[00:01:18]
His mom said by the radio until his voice told her hello[00:01:24]
She knew then that he made it there alright[00:01:29]
Then she'd say a little prayer[00:01:35]
Giving thanks that he was there[00:01:37]
And she'd wait up for him again tonight[00:01:40]
Then one cold and rainy morn[00:01:46]
All the tires were badly worn[00:01:48]
But still he screeched off[00:01:51]
Just as fast this time[00:01:53]
Well BJ had a lot of nerve but[00:01:56]
He completely missed the curve[00:02:00]
And he signed off down near[00:02:02]
The Georgia line[00:02:04]
Mom sat by the radio[00:02:08]
The voice she heard she didn't know[00:02:10]
BJ'd never been this late before[00:02:13]
But with the road so bad[00:02:18]
And all she'd wait a while before she called[00:02:20]
And then she heard the knock upon the door[00:02:24]
BJ the DJ only twenty four a wreck at ninety miles[00:02:29]
An hour he'll spin the discs no more[00:02:37]
