Talking Union - Pete Seeger (皮特·西格)/Almanac Singers[00:00:00]
Written by:Pete Seeger/Millard Lampell/Lee Hays[00:00:00]
Now if you want higher wages let me tell you what to do[00:00:06]
You got to talk to the workers in the shop with you[00:00:08]
You got to build you a union got to make it strong[00:00:10]
But if you all stick together boys it won't be long[00:00:12]
You get shorter hours better working conditions[00:00:15]
Vacations with pay take your kids to the seashore[00:00:20]
It ain't quite this simple so I better explain[00:00:24]
Just why you got to ride on the union train[00:00:26]
'Cause if you wait for the boss to raise your pay[00:00:29]
We'll all be a waitin' 'til Judgment day[00:00:31]
We'll all be buried gone to heaven[00:00:33]
St Peter'll be the straw boss then[00:00:38]
Now you know you're underpaid but the boss says you ain't[00:00:42]
He speeds up the work 'til you're 'bout to faint[00:00:44]
You may be down and out but you ain't beaten[00:00:47]
You can pass out a leaflet and call a meetin'[00:00:49]
Talk it over speak your mind[00:00:51]
Decide to do somethin' about it[00:00:56]
Course the boss may persuade some poor damn fool[00:01:00]
To go to your meetin' and act like a stool[00:01:02]
But you can always tell a stool though that's a fact[00:01:04]
He's got a yaller streak a runnin' down his back[00:01:06]
He doesn't have to stool he'll always get along[00:01:08]
On what he takes out of blind men's cups[00:01:13]
You got a union now and you're sittin' pretty[00:01:21]
Put some of the boys on the steering committee[00:01:23]
The boss won't listen when one guy squawks[00:01:25]
But he's got to listen when the union talks[00:01:27]
He'd better be mighty lonely[00:01:29]
Everybody decide to walk out on him[00:01:34]
Suppose they're working you so hard it's just outrageous[00:01:41]
And they're paying you all starvation wages[00:01:43]
You go to the boss and the boss would yell[00:01:45]
Before I raise your pay I'd see you all in hell[00:01:47]
Well he's puffing a big seegar feeling mighty slick[00:01:49]
'Cause he thinks he's got your union licked[00:01:51]
Well he looks out the window and what does he see[00:01:54]
But a thousand pickets and they all agree[00:01:56]
He's a bastard unfair slavedriver[00:01:58]
Bet he beats his wife[00:02:04]
Now boys you've come to the hardest time[00:02:09]
The boss will try to bust your picket line[00:02:12]
He'll call out the police the national guard[00:02:14]
They'll tell you it's a crime to have a union card[00:02:16]
They'll raid your meetin' they'll hit you on the head[00:02:18]
They'll call every one of you a goddam red[00:02:20]
Unpatriotic Japanese spies sabotaging national defense[00:02:23]
But out at ford here's what they found[00:02:33]
And out at vultee here's what they found[00:02:35]
And out at allis chalmers here's what they found[00:02:37]
And down at bethlehem here's what they found[00:02:39]
That if you don't let red baiting break you up[00:02:41]
And if you don't let stoolpigeons break you up[00:02:43]
And if you don't let vigilantes break you up[00:02:45]
And if you don't let race hatred break you up[00:02:47]
You'll win what I mean take it easy but take it[00:02:50]
