Tony - Johnny Cash[00:00:00]
Written by:D.C. POWERS[00:00:02]
This is the story of Tweedle O Twist[00:00:06]
And a cowboy[00:00:10]
That I knew named Tony[00:00:12]
From Blithe Fresno ol'[00:00:15]
Sant Joe Washoe go rodeo[00:00:16]
Pendleton Santa Ana Baker[00:00:19]
Bozeman and Burley[00:00:21]
From Chambers to Payson[00:00:26]
Rapid City to Akron[00:00:27]
We'd sing just to ease[00:00:30]
All the hurts that we gained[00:00:31]
A bandage to wrap the aches[00:00:35]
And a few turns of tape[00:00:37]
Held us together[00:00:39]
And stopped the blood stains[00:00:41]
Well sometimes we'd draw bad[00:00:46]
And the stock wouldn't buck[00:00:48]
And there was times when the luck[00:00:50]
Wasn't goin' our way[00:00:52]
But a credit card that I'd found[00:00:55]
Would get us to the next town[00:00:57]
With just a switch[00:00:59]
Of his Montana plates[00:01:01]
I remember at Evanston[00:01:04]
When a bull broke his arm[00:01:06]
And we had to make it[00:01:08]
On into Beulah the next day[00:01:10]
I broke out the CB[00:01:14]
And the only doctor Tony seen[00:01:16]
Was me and a can of ether[00:01:18]
There in the Beulah shoot gates[00:01:20]
And it was at Louisville[00:01:23]
That I went down in the well[00:01:25]
And a suicide wrap[00:01:27]
I held in my hand[00:01:29]
The clown just shook his boom[00:01:31]
While I dangled near doom[00:01:33]
It was Tony that saved my life then[00:01:35]
Then a year from that week[00:01:40]
We pulled up at Mesquite[00:01:42]
Where I drew number twelve from the herd[00:01:44]
And Tony my side[00:01:48]
Kick pulled Tweedle O Twist[00:01:49]
That bull's famous from[00:01:52]
Prairie to Evansburg[00:01:54]
All right now cowboys kinda clear the way[00:01:58]
Let that ambulance through there[00:02:02]
Let that ambulance on through[00:02:03]
Looks like a pretty bad wreck out there folks[00:02:05]
Hold up folks we go one more ride[00:02:08]
Left down there in the shoots[00:02:10]
Wait a minute[00:02:13]
It looks like they're turnin' ole number twelve out[00:02:14]
So that's all for today folks[00:02:18]
I'll finish the story of Tweedle O Twist[00:02:25]
And the cowboy that I knew named Tony[00:02:29]
From Sterling to Abilene[00:02:34]
Loveland to New Orleans[00:02:36]
I've got a new partner travelin' with me[00:02:38]
But I never could explain[00:02:43]
Why I called him the wrong name[00:02:45]
When I get drunk I call him Tony[00:02:48]
And sometimes he'll ask me[00:02:52]
Why I pass Montana by[00:02:54]
You know at Butte they got money[00:02:56]
But that's where I met him[00:03:03]
My side kickin' friend[00:03:04]
I've got more than enough[00:03:07]
Of his memories[00:03:08]
For down in Mesquite[00:03:11]
There's a cowboy sleeping[00:03:12]
Where bulls ain't a buckin'[00:03:15]
Ain't a buckin' ole Tony[00:03:18]
