The Preacher And The Bear - Jerry Reed[00:00:00]
The preacher went out a huntin' it was on one Sunday morn'[00:00:07]
It was against his religion but he took a shotgun along[00:00:11]
He got himself a mess o' mighty fine quail and one old scraggly hare[00:00:15]
And on the way home he crossed the path of a great big grizzly bear[00:00:19]
Well the bear got down lookin' ready to charge[00:00:23]
The preacher never seen nothin' quite that large[00:00:25]
They looked each other right smack in the eye[00:00:27]
Didn't take that preacher long to say bye[00:00:29]
The preacher he run till he spotted a tree[00:00:31]
He said "Up in that tree's where I oughta be"[00:00:33]
By the time that bear made a grab for him[00:00:35]
The preacher was a sittin' on top a that limb[00:00:37]
Scared to death he turned about[00:00:39]
He looked to the sky and began to shout[00:00:41]
"Hey lord you delivered Daniel from the bottom of the lion's den[00:00:43]
You delivered Jonah from the belly of the whale and then[00:00:47]
The Hebrew children from the fiery furnace[00:00:51]
So the good books do declare[00:00:53]
Hey lord if you can't help me [00:00:55]
For goodness sake don't help that bear"[00:00:57]
Yea look out preacher [00:01:03]
Well about that time the limb broke off[00:01:06]
And the preacher came tumblin' down[00:01:07]
Had a straight razor out of his pocket[00:01:10]
By the time he lit on the ground[00:01:12]
He landed on his feet right in front a that bear[00:01:14]
And Lord what an awful fight[00:01:16]
The preacher and the bear and the razor and the hair[00:01:18]
Flyin' from left to right[00:01:20]
Well first they was up and then they was down[00:01:22]
The preacher and the bear runnin' round an' round[00:01:24]
The bear he roared and the the preacher he groaned[00:01:26]
He was havin' a tough time holdin' his own [00:01:28]
He said "Lord if I get out a here alive[00:01:30]
To the good book I'll abide[00:01:32]
No more huntin' on the Sabbath day[00:01:34]
Come Sunday I'm headin' to the church to pray"[00:01:35]
Up to the heavens the preacher glanced[00:01:37]
He said "Lord won't you give me just one more chance"[00:01:39]
So the preacher got away he looked around[00:01:42]
Seen a tree where he'd be safe and sound[00:01:43]
Jumped on a limb turned about[00:01:45]
Looked to the sky and began to shout[00:01:47]
"Hey lord you delivered Daniel from the bottom of the lion's den[00:01:49]
You delivered Jonah from the belly of the whale and then[00:01:54]
The Hebrew children from the fiery furnace[00:01:57]
So the good books do declare[00:01:59]
Hey lord if you can't help me [00:02:01]
For goodness sake don't help that bear"[00:02:04]
