Hi This evening I'll be reading[00:00:54]

From a book I just finished[00:01:00]

And since a lot of it is about the future [00:01:04]

I'm going to start more or less[00:01:07]

On the last page [00:01:10]

And tell you about my grandmother [00:01:13]

Now she was a Southern Baptist Holy Ruler[00:01:19]

And she had a very clear idea about the future [00:01:23]

And of how the world would end [00:01:28]

In fire [00:01:32]

Like in Revelations [00:01:37]

Like in Revelations [00:01:38]

And when I was ten my grandmother told me[00:01:42]

The world would end in a year [00:01:45]

So I spent the whole year praying[00:01:49]

And reading the Bible[00:01:52]

And alienating all my friends and relatives [00:01:54]

And finally the big day came [00:01:59]

And absolutely nothing happened [00:02:04]

Just another day [00:02:10]

Now my grandmother was a missionary[00:02:21]

And she had heard[00:02:24]

That the largest religion in the[00:02:25]

World was Buddhism [00:02:26]

So she decided to go to Japan[00:02:30]

To convert Buddhists [00:02:32]

And to inform them about the end of the world [00:02:35]

And to inform them about the end of the world [00:02:38]

And she didn't speak Japanese [00:02:44]

So she tried to convert them with a combination[00:02:47]

Of hand gestures [00:02:49]

Sign language and hymns in English [00:02:51]

The Japanese had absolutely no idea what[00:03:06]

She was trying to get at [00:03:10]

And when she got back to the United States she was[00:03:14]

Still talking about the end of the world [00:03:17]

And I remember the day she died [00:03:21]

She was very excited She was like a small bird perched[00:03:24]

On the edge of her bed near the window in the hospital [00:03:29]

Waiting to die [00:03:33]

And she was wearing these pink[00:03:36]

Nightgowns and combing[00:03:37]

Her hair so she'd look pretty for the big moment[00:03:40]

When Christ came to get her [00:03:45]

And she wasn't afraid but then [00:03:53]

Just at the very last[00:03:56]

Minute something happened[00:03:57]

That changed everything [00:04:01]

Because suddenly at the very[00:04:05]

Last minute she panicked [00:04:06]

After a whole life of praying and predicting[00:04:13]

The end of the world she panicked [00:04:15]

And she panicked because she couldn't decide[00:04:22]

Whether or not to wear a hat [00:04:25]

And so when she died she went into the future[00:04:42]

In a panic with absolutely no idea of[00:04:49]
