Utah Carol

Utah Carol - Marty Robbins[00:00:00]

Written by:Traditional[00:00:01]

And now my friends you've asked me what makes me sad and still[00:00:05]

And why my brow is darkened like the clouds upon the hill[00:00:11]

Run in your ponies closer and I'll tell to you my tale[00:00:16]

Of Utah Carol my partner and his last ride on the trail[00:00:22]

We rode the range together and rode it side by side[00:00:28]

I loved him like a brother and I wept when Utah died[00:00:34]

We were rounding up one morning when work was almost done[00:00:39]

When on his side the cattle started on a frightened run[00:00:45]

Underneath the saddle that the boss's daughter rode[00:00:51]

Utah that very morning had placed a bright red robe[00:00:56]

So the saddle might ride easy for Lenore his little friend[00:01:02]

And it was this red blanket that brought him to his end[00:01:07]

The blanket was now dragging behind her on the ground[00:01:13]

The frightened cattle saw it and charged it with a bound[00:01:19]

Lenore then saw her danger and turned her pony's face[00:01:24]

And leaning in the saddle tied the blanket to its place[00:01:30]

But in leaning lost her balance fell in front of that wild tide[00:01:35]

Lay still Lenore I'm coming were the words that Utah cried[00:01:41]

His faithful pony saw her and reached her in a bound[00:01:47]

I thought he'd been successful and raised her from the ground[00:01:53]

But the weight upon the saddle had not been felt before[00:01:58]

His back cinch snapped like thunder and he fell by Lenore[00:02:04]

Picking up the blanket he swung it over his head[00:02:10]

And started cross the prairie lay still Lenore he said[00:02:15]

When he got the stampede turned and saved Lenore his friend[00:02:21]

He turned to face the cattle and meet his fatal end[00:02:27]

His six gun flashed like lightning the report rang loud and clear[00:02:32]

As the cattle rushed and killed him he dropped the leading steer[00:02:38]

On his funeral morning I heard the preacher say[00:02:44]

I hope we'll all meet Utah at the roundup far away[00:02:49]

Then they wrapped him in a blanket that saved his little friend[00:02:54]

And it was this red blanket that brought him to his end[00:03:00]
