Friends this is Tex Ritter with a strange story about a soldier boy and a deck of cards[00:00:00]

During a North African campaign a bunch of soldier boys[00:00:05]

Had been on a long hike and they arrived in a little town called[00:00:08]

Casino[00:00:11]

The next morning being Sunday several of the boys went to church[00:00:12]

Sargent commanded the boys in church[00:00:16]

And after the Chaplain had read the prayer the text was taken up next[00:00:18]

Those of the boys who had a prayer book[00:00:22]

Took them out[00:00:24]

But this one boy only had a deck of cards and so he spread[00:00:25]

Them out[00:00:28]

The Sergeant saw the cards and said[00:00:29]

Soldier put away those cards[00:00:31]

After the services were over the soldier was taken prisoner and[00:00:33]

Brought before the Provost Marshall[00:00:36]

The Marshall said Sargent[00:00:38]

Why have you brought this man here[00:00:40]

For playing cards in church sir[00:00:42]

And what have you to say for yourself son[00:00:44]

Much sir replied the soldier[00:00:46]

The Marshall said I hope so for if not[00:00:49]

I shall punish you more than any man was ever punished[00:00:51]

The soldier said Sir[00:00:54]

I have been on a march for about six days[00:00:56]

And I had neither Bible nor Prayer Book[00:00:58]

But I hope to satisfy you Sir with the purity of my intentions[00:01:00]

With that the boy started his story[00:01:04]

You see Sir when I look at the Ace[00:01:06]

It reminds me that there is but one God[00:01:08]

And deuce reminds me that the Bible is divided into two parts[00:01:10]

The Old and New Testaments[00:01:13]

And when I see the trey I think of the Father[00:01:15]

The son and Holy Ghost[00:01:17]

When I see the four I think of the four evangelist preached the Gospel[00:01:19]

There was Matthew Mark Luke and John[00:01:23]

And when I see the five it reminds me of the five wise virgins[00:01:26]

Who trimmed their lamps[00:01:29]

Ten of 'em five who were wise and were saved[00:01:30]

Five were foolish and were shut out[00:01:33]

And when I see the six it reminds me[00:01:35]

That in six days God made this great heaven and earth[00:01:37]

And when I see the seven it reminds me that on the seventh day[00:01:40]

God rested from His great work[00:01:43]

When I see the eight I think of the eight righteous persons[00:01:46]

God saved when he destroyed this earth[00:01:48]

There was Noah his wife their three sons and their wives[00:01:51]

And when I see the nine I think of the lepers our Savior cleansed[00:01:54]

And nine of the ten didn't even thank Him[00:01:57]

When I see the ten I think of the Ten Commandments God[00:02:00]

Handed down the Moses on a tablet of stone[00:02:02]

When I see the King it reminds me that there is[00:02:05]

But one King of Heaven God Almighty[00:02:08]

And when I see the queen I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary[00:02:11]

Who is Queen of Heaven[00:02:14]

And the jacks or knave it's the devil[00:02:16]

And when I count the number of spots on a deck of cards[00:02:18]

I find three hundred sixty-five the number of days in a year[00:02:21]

Fifty-two cards the number of weeks in a year[00:02:24]

Four suits the number of weeks in a month[00:02:27]

Twelve picture cards the number of months in a year[00:02:29]

Thirteen tricks the number of weeks in a quarter[00:02:33]

So you see Sir[00:02:36]

My pack of cards serve me as a Bible almanac and prayer book[00:02:38]

Friends I know this story is true because I knew that soldier[00:02:43]
