The Passenger - Chris Ledoux[00:00:00]
It was dark I was drivin' down[00:00:11]
A loney Texas road[00:00:14]
The night was hot and sleep[00:00:16]
Pulled at my eyes[00:00:18]
I was thinkin' of the wild times[00:00:21]
And the women that I'd had[00:00:24]
The deceitful things I'd done and those lies[00:00:26]
Standin' in the shadows by the side of the road[00:00:32]
Was the figure of a withered old man[00:00:37]
He wore a black bandanna a ropin' Stetson hat[00:00:42]
With a two inch scarlet hat band[00:00:47]
He held his wrinkled hand up as[00:00:52]
A sign to shut her down[00:00:55]
So I pulled over and stopped by his side[00:00:57]
He opened up the door slid in and sat down[00:01:03]
He said my ain't it hot tonight[00:01:08]
I studied this old man[00:01:13]
And it seemed mighty strange[00:01:15]
For him to be out here all alone[00:01:18]
Then he started talkin'[00:01:24]
And he told me many things[00:01:26]
Of times like both of us had known[00:01:29]
He told me of the wild life[00:01:37]
And the women that he'd had[00:01:39]
How none ofthem had ever meant a thing[00:01:42]
He told me of a black night[00:01:47]
Much the same as this[00:01:50]
Of the strange and awesome things he'd seen[00:01:52]
A man beside the road had raised[00:01:57]
His hand and flagged him down[00:02:00]
So he stopped and let him in[00:02:02]
That stranger told him stories[00:02:08]
That I am hearing now[00:02:10]
'Bout the wild times and all the sin[00:02:12]
Then the car got cold[00:02:18]
And clammy and this old man looked at me[00:02:19]
He said boy I've come here for you[00:02:23]
Your days of wicked sinnin'[00:02:28]
Have come to an end[00:02:31]
As a mortal on this earth boy you are through[00:02:33]
Then his eyes got red[00:02:39]
And fiery as he took his Stetson off[00:02:40]
To reveal his evil horns shiny and black[00:02:44]
My God the fear came over me[00:02:49]
And my senses were all lost[00:02:51]
I fought with him until we finally crashed[00:02:54]
Next day they found the car[00:03:05]
At the bottom of a draw[00:03:07]
The young cowboy was found beside the wreck[00:03:10]
His ear had been consumed by fire the cowboy had no marks[00:03:15]
Except the smoke and pitch fork brand upon his neck[00:03:20]
