Bob Dylan - Brownsville Girl[00:00:01]
Well there was this movie I seen one time [00:00:05]
About a man riding 'cross the desert and[00:00:17]
It starred Gregory Peck [00:00:22]
He was shot down by a hungry kid trying[00:00:24]
To make a name for himself [00:00:30]
The townspeople wanted to crush[00:00:31]
That kid down and string him up by the neck [00:00:35]
Well the marshal [00:00:37]
Now he beat that kid to a bloody pulp[00:00:41]
As the dying gunfighter lay in the sun and[00:00:43]
Gasped for his last breath [00:00:50]
Turn him loose let him go [00:00:52]
Let him say he outdrew me fair and square [00:00:55]
I want him to feel what it's like to[00:00:58]
Every moment face his death [00:01:02]
Well I keep seeing this stuff and it just comes a-rolling in[00:01:04]
And you know it blows right through me like a ball and chain [00:01:10]
You know I can't believe we've lived so long[00:01:17]
And are still so far apart [00:01:22]
The memory of you keeps callin'[00:01:24]
After me like a rollin' train [00:01:30]
I can still see the day that you came to me[00:01:32]
On the painted desert[00:01:37]
In your busted down Ford and your platform heels[00:01:37]
I could never figure out[00:01:44]
Why you chose that particular place to meet[00:01:49]
Ah but you were right [00:01:51]
It was perfect as I got in behind the wheel [00:01:56]
Well we drove that car all night into San Anton'[00:01:58]
And we slept near the Alamo your skin was so tender and soft [00:02:05]
Way down in Mexico you went out to[00:02:12]
Find a doctor and you never came back [00:02:18]
I would have gone on after you but[00:02:20]
I didn't feel like letting my head get blown off [00:02:23]
Well we're drivin' this car and[00:02:26]
The sun is comin' up over the Rockies [00:02:30]
Now I know she ain't you but she's here[00:02:32]
And she's got that dark rhythm in her soul [00:02:37]
But I'm too over the edge and[00:02:39]
I ain't in the mood anymore to remember[00:02:44]
The times when I was your only man[00:02:45]
And she don't want to remind me [00:02:47]
She knows this car would go out of control [00:02:50]
Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls [00:02:52]
Teeth like pearls shining like the moon above[00:03:00]
Brownsville girl show me all around the world [00:03:06]
Brownsville girl you're my honey love [00:03:14]
Well we crossed the panhandle and[00:03:19]
Then we headed towards Amarillo[00:03:24]
We pulled up where Henry Porter used to live [00:03:26]
He owned a wreckin' lot outside[00:03:30]
Of town about a mile [00:03:31]
Ruby was in the backyard hanging clothes [00:03:33]
She had her red hair tied back [00:03:37]
She saw us come rolling up in a trail of dust [00:03:39]
She said "Henry ain't here but you can come on in [00:03:42]
He'll be back in a little while "[00:03:45]
Then she told us how times were tough and[00:03:46]
About how she was thinkin' of bummin'[00:03:51]
A ride back to where she started [00:03:52]
But ya know she changed the subject[00:03:54]
Every time money came up [00:03:56]
She said "Welcome to the land of the living dead "[00:03:58]
You could tell she was so broken-hearted [00:04:04]
She said [00:04:07]
"Even the swap meets around here are getting pretty corrupt "[00:04:09]
"How far are y'all going " Ruby asked us with a sigh [00:04:11]
"We're going all the way 'til the wheels fall off and burn [00:04:19]
'Til the sun peels the paint and[00:04:25]
The seat covers fade and the water moccasin dies "[00:04:31]
Ruby just smiled and said "Ah you know some babies never learn "[00:04:34]
Something about that movie though well I just can't get it out of my head[00:04:39]
But I can't remember why I was in it or what part I was supposed to play [00:04:47]
All I remember about it was Gregory Peck and the way people moved[00:04:52]
And a lot of them seemed to be lookin' my way [00:04:58]
Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls teeth like pearls shining like the moon above[00:05:05]
Brownsville girl show me all around the world [00:05:18]
Brownsville girl you're my honey love [00:05:27]
Well they were looking for somebody with a pompadour [00:05:32]
I was crossin' the street when shots rang out [00:05:52]
I didn't know whether to duck or to run so I ran [00:05:58]
"We got him cornered in the churchyard " I heard somebody shout [00:06:05]
Well you saw my picture in the Corpus Christi Tribune Underneath it it said "A man with no alibi "[00:06:11]
You went out on a limb to testify for me you said I was with you [00:06:19]
Then when I saw you break down in front of the judge and cry real tears [00:06:24]
It was the best acting I saw anybody do [00:06:31]
Now I've always been the kind of person that doesn't like to trespass but sometimes you just find yourself over the line [00:06:36]
Oh if there's an original thought out there I could use it right now [00:06:46]
You know I feel pretty good but that ain't sayin' much I could feel a whole lot better [00:06:50]
If you were just here by my side to show me how [00:06:57]
Well I'm standin' in line in the rain to see a movie starring Gregory Peck [00:07:04]
Yeah but you know it's not the one that I had in mind [00:07:10]
He's got a new one out now I don't even know what it's about[00:07:16]
But I'll see him in anything so I'll stand in line [00:07:25]
Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls teeth[00:07:30]
Like pearls shining like the moon above[00:07:39]
Brownsville girl show me all around the world [00:07:42]
Brownsville girl you're my honey love [00:07:51]
You know it's funny how things never turn out the way you had 'em planned [00:07:56]
The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter is[00:08:30]
That his name wasn't Henry Porter [00:08:33]
And you know there was somethin' about you baby that[00:08:35]
I liked that was always too good for this world[00:08:40]
Just like you always said there was something about me[00:08:42]
You liked that I left behind in the French Quarter [00:08:46]
Strange how people who suffer together[00:08:49]
Have stronger connections than people who are most content [00:08:53]
I don't have any regrets [00:08:56]
They can talk about me plenty when I'm gone [00:08:58]
You always said people don't do what they believe in [00:09:01]
They just do what's most convenient then they repent [00:09:07]
And I always said "Hang on to me baby [00:09:10]
And let's hope that the roof stays on "[00:09:13]
There was a movie I seen one time [00:09:15]
I think I sat through it twice [00:09:19]
I don't remember who I was or where I was bound [00:09:23]
All I remember about it was it starred Gregory Peck [00:09:27]
He wore a gun and he was shot in the back [00:09:34]
Seems like a long time ago long before the stars were torn down [00:09:37]
Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls [00:09:40]
Teeth like pearls shining like the moon above[00:09:49]
Brownsville girl show me all around the world [00:09:53]
Brownsville girl you're my honey love [00:10:01]
Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls [00:10:07]
Teeth like pearls shining like the moon above[00:10:14]
Brownsville girl show me all around the world Brownsville girl [00:10:19]
You're my honey love [00:10:30]
Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls [00:10:32]
Teeth like pearls shining like the moon above[00:10:40]
Brownsville girl show me all around the world[00:10:45]
