Humble Passenger - Dr. Dog[00:00:00]
I set out before the sun came up[00:00:25]
Brought my light and my canoe[00:00:29]
Convinced that's all I needed[00:00:33]
Lord knows that wasn't true[00:00:36]
So I kept my lantern low until my house was out of view[00:00:44]
And by and by I reached the ocean as the day made its debut[00:00:51]
And in the misty summer morning I found myself under attack[00:00:58]
And in the panic of that water I knew there was no turning back[00:01:06]
So I made my peace[00:01:14]
And I set my course for an island to the west[00:01:16]
For on that shore of sycamore I'll find myself some rest[00:01:21]
Once I hid my boat and covered my oars I fell down into that shade[00:01:28]
And I dreamt that at my ripe old age[00:01:36]
I was back in the second grade[00:01:40]
And my momma she was calling for me and the bus came down my street[00:01:44]
But I did not know what shoes to wear[00:01:51]
And I could not find my feet[00:01:55]
So I floated down the hall through the door and everything went pale[00:01:59]
I climbed aboard that yellow bus as it turned into a whale[00:02:06]
And then it swallowed me up whole yeah it thrashed me all around[00:02:13]
Well it chewed me up and it spit me out miles above the ground[00:02:21]
And I was falling for the water that was boiling in a cup[00:02:28]
And I tried to scream but had no steam[00:02:36]
And that's when I woke up[00:02:40]
When I came to I was so confused how long was I asleep[00:03:01]
The loneliness I felt right then was enough to make me weep[00:03:09]
Then I heard the voice inside my head lit a fire under me[00:03:16]
It said your fear is gonna cost a lot but your courage comes for free[00:03:23]
So I thanked that little island I paddled off without a care[00:03:30]
For I know not where I'm going but I'll know it when I'm there[00:03:38]
And I hope that no one's a missing me back in my home town[00:03:45]
For together we will always be even though I'm not around[00:03:53]
And the sea swirled by like a ballet and it sang its gentle song[00:04:00]
But a distant rumble warned me it wouldn't be that way for long[00:04:08]
So I spoke out and I told the night this life's not only mine[00:04:16]
I am just your humble passenger and I trust your grand design[00:04:23]
By and by the clouds came lumbering through and the raindrops staggered in[00:04:34]
And the waves lined up two by two for the show would soon begin[00:04:42]
And the lightning bolts ripped through the sky like sharks that missed a meal[00:04:49]
And the wind went up so hard and cold just like a wall of steel[00:04:57]
Then all at once the sea below picked me up a mile high[00:05:05]
As it threw me to the ocean's floor I heard the night's reply[00:05:12]
Well you see my humble passenger[00:05:23]
The sorrow that I feel[00:05:27]
For I do not know where you belong[00:05:31]
And I do not want this wheel[00:05:35]
