An Article from Life (Without Overdub) - Lefty Frizzell[00:00:00]
Written by:Johnny Ancil Wilson[00:00:01]
Evening sun had just gone down[00:00:06]
On five acres of ground I'm in Georgia[00:00:09]
When the back door opened silently[00:00:16]
She had made some tea and said here this is for you[00:00:19]
Then a man selling magazines stopped[00:00:25]
And began talking to my wife[00:00:30]
And before he left there well that man had sold her[00:00:35]
Twelve months subscriptions to Life[00:00:42]
On page twenty-five it said all New York was alive and really swinging[00:00:48]
Then page 29 it showed a picture of parties and wine with people singing[00:00:58]
Well it wasn't long until I saved[00:01:11]
A thousand dollar bill from the harvest[00:01:14]
And I had planned to buy more land[00:01:21]
But my baby hit me where it hurts the hardest[00:01:24]
She said I'd like to see New York[00:01:30]
What could I say except to say that's fine[00:01:34]
And while she was packing my thoughts wandered back and[00:01:40]
That article from Life ran through my mind[00:01:47]
Oh New York was still alive at 2 am when we arrived Sunday morning[00:01:53]
She said we'd only stay a week[00:02:03]
Cause in seven months our first child would be born[00:02:06]
She knew it meant the world to me[00:02:13]
Still the parties and the wild life changed her mind[00:02:16]
She begged to be set free I said it just can't be[00:02:22]
In anger I took my darlings life[00:02:29]
Read about the harvest crime turn to page 29[00:02:36]
I'm featured in an article from Life[00:02:42]
