The Great Nashville Railroad Disaster (A True Story) - David Allan Coe[00:00:00]
One sultry summer morning in the year of 1918[00:00:06]
Three hundred men with ebony skin[00:00:12]
Pulled out of union station[00:00:15]
Heading out of nashville for western tennessee[00:00:19]
Homeward bound cause uncle sam closed down[00:00:25]
The munitions factory [00:00:27]
At that very moment on the cheatham county line[00:00:35]
Old number one train from memphis[00:00:41]
Was running way behind[00:00:43]
Back in the smokey club car a memphis gambling man[00:00:47]
Said gentleman i'm folding these cards[00:00:52]
Cause i drew a dead mans hand [00:00:55]
A young man in a milk truck out near dutchman's grade[00:01:03]
Said oh my god two trains one track[00:01:08]
Then he closed his eyes and he prayed[00:01:11]
A sister from the orphans home made a cross upon her chest[00:01:16]
Cause a one iron beast was coming from the east[00:01:21]
And another one was coming from the west[00:01:25]
The bird flew from the tree tops as the impact shook the ground[00:01:29]
The screaming wheels and the grinding steel[00:01:35]
Could be heard for miles around[00:01:37]
The bird flew from the tree tops as the impact shook the ground[00:01:42]
The screaming wheels and the grinding steel[00:01:47]
Could be heard for miles around[00:01:50]
Now every july 9th a few miles west of town[00:01:58]
To this day some folks say[00:02:11]
You can hear that mournful sound[00:02:15]
