[00:00:00] Rememberance of Charlie Patton - Bukka White [00:00:00] Always wanted to be [00:00:01] Like old Charlie Patton [00:00:02] Long ago when I was a kid [00:00:03] I hear him an [00:00:05] Play those numbers about: [00:00:08] 'I'll hitch up my buggy [00:00:09] And saddle my black mare' [00:00:12] An I used to pick cotton [00:00:13] An come around [00:00:14] In Clarksdale after them cafes [00:00:17] Eatin' cheese [00:00:19] An cracker [00:00:21] None of the other boys [00:00:22] They didn't have an idea [00:00:23] What I was thinkin' [00:00:23] I say I wants to come to [00:00:25] Be a great man like [00:00:26] Charlie Patton [00:00:27] But I didn't want to get killed [00:00:29] He did [00:00:30] The way he had to go [00:00:31] I've always realized I knew [00:00:32] I had to die but I didn't [00:00:34] Want one of those ol' [00:00:35] Sand-foot woman womens to [00:00:37] Come up and cut my throat [00:00:38] Or do somethin' to me [00:00:39] That was unnecessary [00:00:40] And so goes on down [00:00:43] And got me old piece a-guitar [00:00:45] And I always wanted to play about [00:00:48] 'Hitch up my buggy [00:00:49] Saddle up my black mare [00:00:51] I wanna find my baby in this [00:00:53] Great big world somewhere [00:00:55] And I got chance [00:00:56] Before he was passed [00:01:00] So he wasn't even thinkin' [00:01:01] About passing [00:01:02] And I shaked his hand once [00:01:03] His brother in Clarksdale [00:01:04] Have a brother that [00:01:05] Work at The Compress [00:01:07] And I said if I ever lived [00:01:09] To get half way grown [00:01:11] Or grown I would wanna be [00:01:12] Just like Charlie Patton was [00:01:14] An after I heard about his death [00:01:17] After I got might near grown [00:01:19] I would have liked at that time [00:01:21] To met the one that caused [00:01:22] Him to have that dead [00:01:24] 'Cause he was a great boy [00:01:26] And ah he used to play-a [00:01:28] A number by [00:01:29] 'Old blue jumped the rabbit [00:01:31] And they runnin' one sold mile'' [00:01:33] When the rabbit fell dead [00:01:34] He cried just like a child' [00:01:37] And you know I felt so good over [00:01:39] That I quit eatin' rabbit [00:01:40] 'Cause them rabbit you know [00:01:41] Do holler when the dog [00:01:42] Catch up to 'em He could [00:01:43] Bit in a newborn baby [00:01:44] And they was screamin' and cry'nin' [00:01:46] And ah after I hear [00:01:48] Charlie Patton went on [00:01:49] An play that number [00:01:50] I 'cide I just stop eat rabbit [00:01:52] If had my dog catch 'em [00:01:53] And I take away from 'em [00:01:55] And so as I went on to say [00:01:57] You know Clarksdale [00:01:58] Is a little old small town that-a-way [00:02:00] A lot of good boys been in there [00:02:02] But in traveling through [00:02:03] Them little small town [00:02:04] Like that a good thing [00:02:06] I found a good man can do [00:02:08] Is take it easy and take [00:02:09] His time and don't fool with [00:02:11] Things that you don't have [00:02:13] Ah that's not worthwhile [00:02:15] You don't have time even [00:02:17] To fool around with [00:02:18] Just take life easy [00:02:20] 'Cause ev'rything shine like gold [00:02:21] And gold you know [00:02:22] They's a lot of brass [00:02:23] You know shine like gold [00:02:24] And so Charlie Patton [00:02:25] Used to sing that song about [00:02:27] 'Hitch up my buggy [00:02:28] And saddle up my black mare' [00:02:30] And I hear would just [00:02:32] Knock me off my feet [00:02:33] I was bare-feeted [00:02:34] Little bare-feeted boy too [00:02:36] And I like it so well after [00:02:37] I growed up the first [00:02:39] Record I put out when [00:02:41] I was comin' up about [00:02:42] 'Downtown women [00:02:44] Sickin' them dogs on me' [00:02:44] I was one that kind-a compare with it [00:02:47] Ah I think I made a pretty [00:02:49] Good hit on that [00:02:50] But now I done forgot [00:02:51] I don't play it so much [00:02:53] But at that time he was [00:02:54] Goin' so good you know [00:02:56] And ah if he's got any friends or relative
