[00:00:01] Waste Of Paint - Bright Eyes [00:00:09] I have a friend he's mostly made of pain [00:00:13] He wakes up drives to work [00:00:14] And then straight back home again [00:00:18] He once cut one of my nightmares out of paper [00:00:22] I thought it was beautiful I put it on a record cover [00:00:27] And I tried to tell him he had a sense of color [00:00:32] And composition so magnificent [00:00:35] And he said "Thank you please but your flattery is truly not becoming me [00:00:42] Your eyes are poor You are blind [00:00:44] You see no beauty could have come from me [00:00:48] I am a waste of breath of space of time " [00:00:58] I knew a woman she was dignified and true [00:01:02] Her love for her man was one of her many virtues [00:01:07] Until one day she found out that he had lied [00:01:11] And she decided the rest of her life [00:01:13] From that point on would be a lie [00:01:17] But she was grateful for everything that had happened [00:01:21] And she was anxious for all that would come next [00:01:25] But then she wept [00:01:27] What did you expect In that big [00:01:29] Old house with the cars she kept [00:01:31] "Oh " and "such is life " she often said With one day leading to the next [00:01:38] You get a little closer to your death which was fine with her [00:01:42] She never got upset and with all the days she may have left [00:01:47] She would never clean another mess or fold his shirts or look her best [00:01:54] She was free to waste away alone [00:02:05] Last night my brother he got drunk and drove [00:02:09] And this cop pulled him off to the side of the road [00:02:13] And he said "Officer Officer You have got the wrong man [00:02:18] No no I'm a student of medicine [00:02:19] The son of a banker you don't understand " [00:02:23] The cop said "No one got hurt [00:02:25] You should be thankful And your carelessness [00:02:28] It is something awful And no [00:02:33] I can't just let you go And though your father's name is known [00:02:38] Your decisions now are yours alone [00:02:41] You're nothing but a stepping stone [00:02:45] On a path to debt to loss to shame " [00:02:57] The last few months I have been living with this couple [00:03:02] Yeah you know the kind who buy everything in doubles [00:03:07] They fit together like a puzzle [00:03:11] And I love their love and I am thankful that someone actually [00:03:16] Receives the prize that was promised by all those fairy tales that drugged us [00:03:24] And they still do me I'm sick lonely no laurel tree just green envy [00:03:30] Will my number come up eventually [00:03:33] Like Love is some kind of lottery [00:03:36] Where you can scratch and see what is underneath It's "Sorry" [00:03:43] Just one cherry "Play Again " Get lucky [00:03:53] So I have been hanging out down by the train's depot No I don't ride [00:03:58] I just sit and watch the people there [00:04:02] And they remind me of wind up cars in motion [00:04:06] The way they spin and turn and jockey for positions [00:04:11] And I want to scream out that it all is nonsense [00:04:15] All your lives one track can't you see it's pointless [00:04:19] But then my knees give under me [00:04:22] My head feels weak and [00:04:24] Suddenly it is clear to see that it is not them but me [00:04:28] Who has lost my self-identity [00:04:32] As I hide behind these books I read while scribbling my poetry [00:04:38] Like art could save a wretch like me [00:04:41] With some ideal ideology that no one can hope to achieve [00:04:47] And I am never real; it is just a sketch of me [00:04:50] And everything I made is trite and cheap [00:04:54] And a waste of paint of tape of time [00:05:09] So now I park my car down by the cathedral [00:05:14] Where floodlights point up at the steeples [00:05:18] Choir practice was filling up with people [00:05:22] I hear the sound escaping as an echo [00:05:28] Sloping off the ceiling at an angle [00:05:32] When voices blend they sound like angels [00:05:37] I hope there is some room still in the middle 404
