[00:00:50] But the boy stayed back till he come to his end

[00:01:11] And she prayed to her spirit kin
[00:01:13] It was warm in the lodge in the Kentucky hills
[00:01:16] On the day when the boy came in
[00:01:19] Then a blizzard came down and it covered up the door
[00:01:21] Till they thought that it never would end
[00:01:24] And he told her the tale of the terrible affair
[00:01:27] In the government store down in Cherokee Bend
[00:01:31] Daddy didn't like what the white man said
[00:01:34] Bout the dirty little kid at his side

[00:01:42] For three long days and three long nights
[00:01:45] They wept and they mourned and then
[00:01:47] She returned to her work and her weavin
[00:01:50] And they tried to forget about Cherokee Bend
[00:02:05] Now the boy wasn't big but he hunted what he could
[00:02:08] And they lived for a time that way
[00:02:10] But the food run low and the meat went bad
[00:02:13] And she said to the boy one day
[00:02:16] I'm leaving tonight and I never will return
[00:02:18] From the land of my Spirit Kin
[00:02:21] You must take what you need and trade what you can
[00:02:24] For a Red Man's grave down in Cherokee Bend
[00:02:28] It wasn't very long till she closed her eyes
[00:02:31] And he wrapped her in a robe
[00:02:33] He found her a place on the side of the hill
[00:02:36] And he buried her in the snow
[00:02:39] Early in the spring he was seen in the town
[00:02:41] With his load looking ragged and thin
[00:02:44] Not a year had gone by till he stood once again
[00:02:47] In the government store down in Cherokee Bend
[00:03:02] He was ten years tall and a Redskin too
[00:03:04] So he hadn't much face to save
[00:03:07] And the men sat around and they laughed and they clowned
[00:03:10] At the talk of a criminal's grave
[00:03:13] Then the man from the east didn't smile when he said
[00:03:15] You're the son of that Indian scum
[00:03:18] If you value your hide then you better abide
[00:03:21] By the white man's rules here in Cherokee Bend
