[00:00:31] And the station master's daughters
[00:00:32] Would be searching high and low
[00:00:36] Saying skimble where is skimble
[00:00:38] For unless he's very nimble
[00:00:39] Then the night mail just can't go
[00:00:42] At eleven forty two
[00:00:44] With the signal overdue
[00:00:46] And the passengers all frantic to a man
[00:00:49] That's when I would appear
[00:00:51] And I'd saunter to the rear
[00:00:53] I'd been busy in the luggage van
[00:00:57] Then he gave one flash
[00:00:59] Of his glass green eyes
[00:01:01] And the signal went all clear
[00:01:04] They'd be off at last
[00:01:06] For the northern part

[00:01:35] And examines all the faces
[00:01:37] Of the travelers in the first and the third
[00:01:40] He establishes control
[00:01:42] By a regular patrol
[00:01:43] And he'd know at once if anything occurred
[00:01:47] He would watch you without winking
[00:01:48] And he saw what you were thinking
[00:01:50] And it's certain that he didn't approve
[00:01:53] Of hilarity and riot
[00:01:55] So that folk were very quiet
[00:01:57] When skimble was about and on the move
[00:02:01] You could play no pranks
[00:02:03] With skimbleshanks
[00:02:05] He's a cat that couldn't be ignored
[00:02:08] So nothing went wrong
[00:02:10] On the northern mail
[00:02:12] When skimbleshanks was aboard
[00:02:17] It was very pleasant
[00:02:18] When they'd found their little den
[00:02:20] With their name written up on the door
[00:02:23] And the berth was very neat
[00:02:25] With a newly folded sheet

[00:02:43] Then the guard looked in politely
[00:02:45] And would ask you very brightly
[00:02:47] Do you like your morning tea
[00:02:48] Weak or strong
[00:02:50] But I was just behind him
[00:02:52] And was ready to remind him
[00:02:54] For skimble won't let anything go wrong
[00:02:58] When they crept into
[00:03:00] Their cosy berth
[00:03:02] And pulled up the counterpane
[00:03:05] They all could reflect
[00:03:07] It was very nice
[00:03:08] To know that they wouldn't be bothered by mice
[00:03:12] They could leave all that
[00:03:13] To the railway cat
[00:03:15] The cat of the railway train
[00:03:18] Skimbleshanks the railway cat

[00:03:28] In the watches of the night
[00:03:30] I was always fresh and bright
[00:03:32] Every now and then I'd have a cup of tea
[00:03:35] With perhaps a drop of scotch
[00:03:37] While I was keeping on the watch
[00:03:38] Only stopping here and there to catch a flea
[00:03:42] They were fast asleep at crewe
[00:03:43] And so they never knew

[00:03:48] They were sleeping all the while
[00:03:50] I was busy at carlisle
[00:03:52] Where I met the station master
[00:03:53] With elation
