Charlotte Street (BBC In Session 1995) - Lloyd Cole[00:00:00]
I was looking for a rhyme for the New York Times[00:00:25]
When I sensed I was not alone[00:00:29]
She said "do you know how to spell 'audaciously' "[00:00:32]
I could tell I was in love[00:00:36]
And so I forced a smile contrary to my style[00:00:39]
And she looked into my eyes[00:00:43]
She said "do you want to go heaven [00:00:46]
Or would you rather not be saved [00:00:50]
Here comes my train[00:00:53]
I'm on my way will you not see [00:01:00]
I don't need your sympathy[00:01:06]
I won't read your poetry oh sweetness please[00:01:10]
So she took me back to her basement flat[00:01:28]
Which was down on Charlotte Street[00:01:32]
Though it was never my intention[00:01:35]
We were not intense not least because--[00:01:38]
"Well if you must just take then I'm a piece of cake"[00:01:42]
That is what she said to me[00:01:46]
And so I gave myself to her charity[00:01:49]
Well at least that's how it seemed[00:01:53]
Here comes my train[00:01:56]
I'm on my way what got into me [00:02:03]
I don't need your sympathy[00:02:09]
I won't read your poetry oh bittersweets[00:02:12]
I was looking for a rhyme for the New York Times when I was distracted[00:02:59]
Yes those were precious times together that we wasted[00:03:06]
Now I'm working hard for my union card[00:03:13]
I must be leaving Charlotte Street[00:03:17]
Though it was never my intention to stay so long[00:03:20]
So long[00:03:27]
