Ballad Of Yarmouth Castle (雅茅斯城堡之歌) (Live) - Gordon Lightfoot[00:00:00]
Written by:Gordon Lightfoot[00:00:01]
Well it's four o'clock in the afternoon[00:00:10]
And the anchors have been weighed[00:00:12]
From Miami to Nassau[00:00:16]
She's bound across the waves[00:00:18]
She'll be headin' south through Biscayne Bay[00:00:21]
Into the open sea[00:00:24]
Yarmouth Castle she's a dyin' and don't know it[00:00:27]
Now the many years she's been to sea[00:00:34]
She's seen the better times[00:00:36]
She gives a groan of protest[00:00:40]
As they cast away her lines[00:00:41]
And the grumble of her engines[00:00:45]
And the rust along her spine[00:00:47]
Tells the Castle she's too old to be sailin'[00:00:51]
But the sands run out within her heart[00:00:58]
A tiny spark glows red[00:01:00]
It smoulders through the evening[00:01:04]
There's laughter overhead[00:01:06]
Now the men are served and the cards are dealt[00:01:09]
And the drinks are passed around[00:01:11]
Deep within the fire starts a burnin'[00:01:15]
Now it's midnight on the open sea[00:01:22]
And the moon is shining bright[00:01:24]
Some people join the party[00:01:27]
And others say good night[00:01:29]
There's many who are sleeping now[00:01:33]
It's been a busy day[00:01:35]
And a tiny wisp of smoke is a risin'[00:01:38]
Oh Lord she groans I'm burning[00:01:46]
Let someone understand[00:01:48]
But her silent plea is wasted[00:01:51]
In the playin' of the band[00:01:53]
Everybody's dancin' on her deck[00:01:57]
And they're havin' such a time[00:01:59]
Then a voice says[00:02:03]
Shut up and deal I'm losin'[00:02:04]
Deep within the Yarmouth Castle[00:02:09]
The fire begins to glow[00:02:12]
It leaps into the hallways[00:02:15]
And climbs and twists and grows[00:02:17]
And the paint she wore to keep her young[00:02:21]
Oh Lord how well it burns[00:02:23]
And soon that old fire is a ragin'[00:02:26]
Up beneath the bridge it's climbin' fast[00:02:33]
The captain stands aloft[00:02:36]
He calls up to the boatswain 'n' says[00:02:39]
Boatswain we are lost[00:02:42]
For the ragged hoses in the racks[00:02:45]
No pressure do they hold[00:02:47]
And the people down below[00:02:50]
Will soon be dyin'[00:02:52]
All amidships oh she's blazin' now[00:02:57]
It's spreadin' fore and aft[00:03:00]
The people are a scramblin'[00:03:03]
As the fire blocks their path[00:03:05]
The evil smoke surrounds them[00:03:08]
And they're fallin' in their tracks[00:03:10]
And the captain in his lifeboat is a leavin'[00:03:14]
Oh then the ship Bahama Star[00:03:30]
Comes steamin' through the night[00:03:32]
She sees the Castle blazin'[00:03:36]
And 'tis a terrible sight[00:03:38]
Jump down jump down the captain cries[00:03:41]
We'll save you if we can[00:03:44]
Then the paint on his funnels is a fryin'[00:03:47]
God help the ones who sleep below[00:03:54]
And cannot find the way[00:03:56]
Thank God for those we've rescued[00:04:00]
Upon this awful day[00:04:02]
Now the heroes they are many[00:04:05]
But the times are growin' slim[00:04:07]
And now from stern to bow[00:04:11]
She's a blazin'[00:04:13]
Oh the Yarmouth Castle's moanin'[00:04:20]
She's cryin' like a child[00:04:22]
You can hear her if you listen[00:04:25]
Above the roar so wild[00:04:28]
Is she cryin' for the ones who lie[00:04:31]
Within her molten sides[00:04:33]
Or cryin' for herself I'm a wonderin'[00:04:37]
But the livin' soon were rescued[00:04:43]
The ones who lived to tell[00:04:46]
From the star they watched her[00:04:49]
As she died there in the swells[00:04:51]
Like a toy ship on a mill pond[00:04:55]
She burned all through the night[00:04:57]
Then slipped 'neath the waves[00:05:00]
In the mornin'[00:05:03]
