The Flint Arrowhead - Johnny Cash[00:00:00]
While traveling this land from[00:00:05]
Border to border and from sea to sea[00:00:07]
There have a few occasions to leave the[00:00:10]
Beaten path and to find the place[00:00:12]
And quiet that's good for thought[00:00:14]
And just walking through a trackless forest[00:00:17]
Or exploring ruins of the earliest settlers[00:00:19]
Or walking along a creek bed[00:00:22]
Hoping to find a relic such as a Tomahawk an axe[00:00:25]
Or even an arrowhead left by a race of long[00:00:29]
Since vanished Indians[00:00:32]
There's a great thrill and[00:00:35]
It's a wonderful feeling to find a flint arrowhead[00:00:36]
Over fields of new turned sod[00:01:01]
And in communion with my God[00:01:04]
I walked alone in a furrow bed [00:01:07]
I found an arrowhead chiseled from stone[00:01:15]
I don't know how long ago some redman[00:01:21]
Drew his bow on its last fight[00:01:24]
Or did he drop it here [00:01:29]
Afraid white men were near to attack at night[00:01:32]
I do know this one thing beyond[00:01:38]
All questioning it was made to kill[00:01:40]
And proof of a master trade is in this arrowhead[00:01:46]
He made fashioned with skill[00:01:50]
That I inherited this ground is denied by this stone[00:01:55]
I've found but when and by who[00:01:59]
Come join me in my tracks then[00:02:06]
Let's stop and look back[00:02:08]
To the vale and through[00:02:11]
In love and peace we'll see the shadows[00:02:15]
And the trees and voices too[00:02:19]
But quietly slowly tread this home of the forgotten dead[00:02:24]
Whose bones are dust[00:02:29]
I'm proud that their craftsman's skill survives[00:02:33]
The ages still left in my trust[00:02:36]
