Rosemont - Frontier Ruckus[00:00:00]
Oh I know everybody here's been[00:00:14]
Dying to get back to Rosemont Street[00:00:18]
But that road was made of flesh[00:00:21]
And now it's dead and now it's beat[00:00:23]
The sun burnt past every rock[00:00:27]
Across the street from that cracked lot[00:00:30]
Detroit air just breaths away[00:00:33]
And that sun died in a petrified way[00:00:35]
Onto the driveway [00:00:39]
Table napkins blown away[00:00:42]
Into the alleyway and summer[00:00:45]
Is the strangest time of day[00:00:49]
I've seen beauty far upstate[00:01:03]
A century is all it takes[00:01:06]
To turn a homestead to the ground[00:01:13]
But there is one thing that I found[00:01:16]
I ain't seen these things in vain[00:01:19]
And deep outside the siren's wailing[00:01:28]
Far from me on the still night[00:01:31]
Through the yards the spores are sailing[00:01:34]
On the toes of those dreams in flight[00:01:37]
To the north back and forth[00:01:42]
Our moments make us off-ramp islands[00:01:46]
Where language tramps falls to silence[00:01:49]
To forget the T V set[00:01:54]
And images of stranger feelings rape[00:01:58]
Our walls and wallpaper our ceilings[00:02:01]
I've seen beauty far upstate[00:02:16]
A century is all it takes[00:02:19]
To turn a homestead to the ground[00:02:26]
But there is one thing that I found[00:02:29]
I ain't seen these things in vain[00:02:32]
I was born to the lawnmower's crying[00:02:43]
And the drying of our gilded lot[00:02:50]
Trust in God when our roofs are sighing again[00:02:55]
And the hill is crying thanks a lot[00:03:02]
Watertowers are drunker than grandfathers[00:03:07]
But they're equally happy[00:03:15]
All that's golden was once eternally unfoldin'[00:03:19]
Now dusktime is the glimpse to see it [00:03:26]
But I'm a burstin' piece [00:03:39]
A questionin' priest [00:03:41]
Like a politician out east[00:03:42]
I've seen swimming pools full of darkness [00:03:45]
On the brightest moonlit nights[00:03:48]
And I've seen fairgrounds [00:03:51]
Heard their sounds [00:03:53]
In that ground lies just what I've found[00:03:54]
Basements are now all we got[00:03:57]
With decade shades and days that rot[00:04:00]
Landbirds flew over my head [00:04:03]
Flag at half mast no one is dead[00:04:06]
Oh I know that that's not true [00:04:09]
But we're so desp'rate [00:04:12]
What else can we do [00:04:13]
I've seen beauty far upstate[00:04:27]
A century is all it takes[00:04:30]
To turn a homestead to the ground[00:04:37]
But there is one thing that I found[00:04:40]
I ain't seen these things in vain[00:04:43]
I ain't seen these things in vain[00:04:50]
I ain't seen these things in vain[00:04:56]
I ain't seen these things in vain[00:05:02]
And everybody dying here has[00:05:08]
Made it back to Rosemont Street[00:05:12]
The roses shake the sidewalk aches[00:05:15]
And Detroit air is hissing at our feet[00:05:19]
