Henry My Son (Live) - Pete Seeger[00:00:00]
Written by:R. Gould[00:00:00]
You know it may seem hard to imagine[00:00:00]
But once upon a time people didn't have[00:00:02]
Any such thing as television[00:00:03]
Didn't have any radios[00:00:07]
And if you wanted to have any music[00:00:09]
You just had to make it yourself[00:00:11]
It was only the kings and queens[00:00:13]
That could afford to have somebody else make music for them[00:00:15]
And you might not think it would be very good music[00:00:20]
Everybody making their own music[00:00:22]
But you'd be surprised[00:00:24]
In almost every family[00:00:27]
It seemed like there'd be somebody who could sing a song[00:00:28]
Or tell a story or tell a joke or something[00:00:31]
And in the evening they'd crowd around the fire[00:00:35]
May be so keep warm[00:00:38]
One man told me he learned how to play the fiddle[00:00:40]
Because he noticed the fiddler[00:00:42]
Always got to stand nearest to the fire[00:00:43]
So he decided that if he wants to stay warm[00:00:47]
He better learn how to play the fiddle[00:00:48]
And they'd sing these old ballads you know[00:00:53]
Like a[00:00:55]
Where have you been all the day randall my son[00:00:56]
Where have you been all the day my pretty one[00:01:01]
I've been to my sweetheart mother[00:01:05]
I've been to my sweetheart mother[00:01:09]
Mother make my bed soon for I'm sick to my heart[00:01:14]
And I fain would lie down[00:01:20]
That's an old old song very sad one[00:01:24]
But I met a fellow last november over in england[00:01:27]
And he said he knew it a different way[00:01:31]
Everybody knows these songs different ways it seems[00:01:33]
He says when he was a kid all the all[00:01:35]
The kids used to sing it[00:01:38]
Where have you been all the day henry my boy[00:01:40]
Where have you been all the day my pride and joy[00:01:43]
In the woods dear mother[00:01:49]
In the woods dear mother[00:01:51]
Mother be quick[00:01:53]
I got to be sick and lay me down to die[00:01:54]
What did you do in the woods all day henry my son[00:01:59]
What did you do in the woods all day my pretty one[00:02:04]
Ate dear mother[00:02:09]
Ate dear mother[00:02:12]
Mother be quick[00:02:14]
I got to be sick and lay me down to die[00:02:15]
What did you eat in the woods all day henry my boy[00:02:20]
What did you eat in the woods all day my saveloy[00:02:25]
Eels dear mother[00:02:32]
Eels dear mother[00:02:35]

I got to be sick and lay me down to die[00:02:37]
What color was those eels henry my boy[00:02:43]
What color was those eels my pride and joy[00:02:47]
Green and yeller[00:02:53]

Urgh dear mother[00:03:14]
Mother be quick[00:03:15]

What color flowers would you like henry my son[00:03:21]

Green and yeller[00:03:30]
Green and yeller[00:03:34]
Mother be quick[00:03:35]
I got to be sick and lay me down to die[00:03:36]
