This Old Porch (Live) - Robert Earl Keen/Lyle Lovett[00:00:00]
Written by:Lyle Pearce/Robert Earl[00:00:01]
This old porch is like a big old red and white hereford bull[00:01:11]
Standing under a mesquite tree[00:01:17]
Out in Texas[00:01:21]
And he just keeps on playing hide and seek[00:01:24]
With that hot August sun[00:01:27]
Sweatin' and pantin'[00:01:30]
His work is never done[00:01:33]
This old porch is like a steaming greasy plate of enchiladas[00:01:36]
With lots of cheese and onions[00:01:43]
And a guacamole salad[00:01:46]
And you can get 'em down at the lasalle hotel[00:01:49]
In old downtown[00:01:52]
With iced tea and a waitress[00:01:55]
She will smile every time[00:01:58]
This old porch is the palace walk in[00:02:01]
On the main street of Texas[00:02:05]
That's never seen the day[00:02:09]
Of g and r and xs[00:02:12]
With that 62 poster[00:02:14]
That's almost faded down[00:02:17]
And a screen without a picture[00:02:21]
Since giant came to town[00:02:24]
This old porch is like a weathered gray haired[00:02:52]
Seventy years of Texas[00:02:56]
Who's doing all he can[00:02:59]
Not to give in to the city[00:03:02]
And he always takes the rent late[00:03:05]
So long as I run his cattle[00:03:08]
And he picks me up at dinnertime[00:03:11]
And I listen to him rattle[00:03:14]
He says the brazos still runs muddy[00:03:17]
Just like she's run all along[00:03:20]
There ain't never been no cane to grind[00:03:24]
The cotton's all but gone[00:03:28]
And you know this brand new chevrolet[00:03:29]
Hell it was something back in 60[00:03:33]
But now there won't nobody listen to him[00:03:37]
'Cause they all think he's crazy[00:03:40]
This old porch is just a long time[00:03:43]
Of waiting and forgetting[00:03:47]
And remembering the coming back[00:03:49]
And not crying about the leaving[00:03:53]
And remembering the falling down[00:03:56]
And the laughter of the curse of luck[00:03:59]
From all of those passerby[00:04:02]
Who said we'd never get back up[00:04:05]
This old porch is just a long time[00:04:20]
Of waiting and forgetting[00:04:24]
And remembering the coming back[00:04:27]
And not crying about the leaving[00:04:30]
And remembering the falling down[00:04:33]
And the laughter of the curse of luck[00:04:36]
From all of those sons of bitches[00:04:40]
Who said we'd never get back up[00:04:43]
