A Poem On The Underground Wall-Simon & Garfunkel[00:00:00]
The last train is nearly due [00:01:33]
The underground is closing soon [00:02:47]
And in the dark deserted station [00:02:49]
Restless in anticipation [00:02:50]
A man waits in the shadows [00:02:52]
His restless eyes leap and scratch [00:02:59]
At all that they can touch or catch [00:03:02]
And hidden deep within his pocket [00:03:05]
Safe within its silent socket [00:03:06]
He holds a colored crayon [00:03:09]
Now from the tunnel's stony womb [00:03:15]
The carriage rides to meet the groom [00:03:17]
And opens wide and welcome doors [00:03:20]
But he hesitates then withdraws[00:03:21]
Deeper in the shadows [00:03:23]
And the train is gone suddenly[00:03:31]
On wheels clicking silently[00:03:35]
Like a gently tapping litany [00:03:39]
And he holds his crayon rosary[00:03:42]
Tighter in his hand [00:03:46]
Now from his pocket quick he flashes [00:03:51]
The crayon on the wall he slashes [00:03:53]
Deep upon the advertising [00:03:55]
A single worded poem comprised[00:03:57]
Of four letters [00:03:59]
And his heart is laughing screaming pounding[00:04:03]
The poem across the tracks rebounding[00:04:05]
Shadowed by the exit light[00:04:07]
His legs take their ascending flight[00:04:09]
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night[00:04:12]
