London Conversation - John Martyn[00:00:00]
In a foreign city once again[00:00:09]
You wave at weakly in the night[00:00:14]
The early sun of London morning[00:00:19]
Burned the darkness with unanswered light[00:00:24]
But morning found you crying[00:00:29]
Waiting for a woman[00:00:35]
Where she left you in an empty state of mind[00:00:37]
Waiting not for her but for relief from passing time[00:00:45]
And a young friend talking softly[00:00:54]
As the mist keep tumbling down[00:00:59]
But the woman waiting for him near[00:01:05]
Stayed and told you of the peace that could be found[00:01:09]
And a fallen heart was woken[00:01:15]
In your tired waiting time[00:01:20]
And you thought you might begin again[00:01:25]
From all the ashes of your mind[00:01:31]
And though he used no poetry[00:01:46]
His words are weaving songs[00:01:51]
And the peace they were recalling[00:01:56]
Were good roads that you might have walked along[00:02:01]
And the skies you saw were all the same[00:02:07]
Although his words were not your own[00:02:12]
But the words and images you've spoken[00:02:17]
Are the ashes from a peace you'd never known[00:02:22]
