The Lion and Albert - Stanley Holloway[00:00:00]
There's a famous seaside place called blackpool[00:00:12]
That's noted for fresh air and fun[00:00:15]
And Mr and Mrs ramsbottom[00:00:18]
Went there with young alberttheir son[00:00:21]
A grand little lad was their albert[00:00:24]
All dressed in his best quite a swell[00:00:27]
With a stick with an 'orse's 'ead 'andle[00:00:30]
The finest that woolworth's could sell[00:00:33]
They didn't think much to the ocean[00:00:36]
The waves they was fiddling and small[00:00:39]
There was no wrecks nobody drownded[00:00:43]
Fact nothing to laugh at at all[00:00:47]
So seeking for further amusement[00:00:50]
They paid and went into the zoo[00:00:53]
Where they'd lions and tigers and camels[00:00:56]
And old ale and sandwiches too[00:01:00]
There were one great big lion called wallace[00:01:03]
His nose were all covered with scars[00:01:07]
He lay in a som no lent posture[00:01:11]
With the side of his face to the bars[00:01:14]
Now albert had heard about lions[00:01:18]
How they were ferocious and wild[00:01:21]
And to see wallace lying so peaceful[00:01:25]
Well it didn't seem right to the child[00:01:28]
So straight way the brave little feller[00:01:31]
Not showing a morsel of fear[00:01:35]
Took is stick with the orse's ead andle[00:01:38]
And pushed it in wallace's ear[00:01:42]
You could see that the lion didn't like it[00:01:45]
For giving a kind of a roll[00:01:49]
He pulled albert inside the cage with 'im[00:01:53]
And swallowed the little lad whole[00:01:56]
Then pa who had seen the occurrence[00:02:00]
And didn't know what to do next[00:02:03]
Said mother yon lions et albert[00:02:06]
And mother said eeh I am vexed[00:02:12]
So Mr and Mrs ramsbottom[00:02:17]
Quite rightly when all's said and done[00:02:19]
Complained to the animal keeper[00:02:22]
That the lion had eaten their son[00:02:25]
The keeper was quite nice about it[00:02:29]
He said what a nasty mishap[00:02:32]
Are you sure that it's your boy he's eaten[00:02:36]
Pa said am I sure there's his cap[00:02:40]
So the manager had to be sent for[00:02:45]
He came and he said what's to do[00:02:48]
Pa said yon lion's eaten our albert[00:02:51]
And I'm in his sunday clothes too[00:02:54]
Then mother said right's right young feller[00:02:58]
I think it's a shame and a sin[00:03:01]
For a lion to go and eat albert[00:03:04]
The manager wanted no trouble[00:03:07]
He took out his purse right away[00:03:10]
And said how much to settle the matter[00:03:13]
And pa said what do you usually pay[00:03:16]
But mother had turned a bit awkward[00:03:20]
When she thought where her albert had gone[00:03:22]
She said no someone's got to be summonsed[00:03:25]
So that were decided upon[00:03:29]
Round they went to the police station[00:03:33]
In front of a magistrate chap[00:03:36]
They told I'm what happened to albert[00:03:38]
And proved it by showing his cap[00:03:41]
The magistrate gave his opinion[00:03:45]
That no one was really to blame[00:03:48]
He said that he hoped the ramsbottoms[00:03:51]
Would have further sons to their name[00:03:54]
At that mother got proper blazing[00:03:59]
And thank you sir kindly said she[00:04:02]
What waste all our lives raising children[00:04:05]
To feed ruddy lions not me[00:04:09]
