Little Joe The Wrangler - Marty Robbins[00:00:00]
Little Joe the Wrangler will wrangle nevermore[00:00:06]
His days with the roundup they are over[00:00:11]
Was a year ago last April[00:00:17]
When he rode into our camp[00:00:19]
Just a little Texas stray and nothing more[00:00:22]
Was late in the evening[00:00:27]
When he rode into our camp[00:00:30]
On the little Texas pony he called Chaw[00:00:33]
With his brogan shoes and overalls[00:00:38]
A tougher looking kid[00:00:41]
You never in your life before had saw[00:00:44]
His saddle was a Texas kack built many years ago[00:00:49]
An OK spur on one foot lightly swung[00:00:54]
With his packroll in a cotton sack[00:00:59]
So loosely tied behind[00:01:02]
And a canteen from his saddle horn was slung[00:01:05]
He said he had to leave his home[00:01:10]
His pa had married twice[00:01:13]
His new ma whipped him every day or two[00:01:16]
So he saddled up old Chaw one night[00:01:21]
And lit a shuck his way[00:01:24]
He said he'd try to paddle his own canoe[00:01:27]
He said if we would give him work[00:01:32]
He'd do the best he could[00:01:35]
Though he didn't know straight up about a cow[00:01:37]
So the boss he cut him out a mount[00:01:42]
And kindly put him on[00:01:45]
He sorta liked this little kid somehow[00:01:48]
He learned to wrangle horses[00:01:53]
And learned to know them all[00:01:56]
And get them in at daybreak if he could[00:01:59]
And to trail the old chuck wagon[00:02:04]
And always hitch the team[00:02:07]
And help to cook each evening rustle wood[00:02:10]
We had hardly reached the Pecos[00:02:15]
The weather it was fine[00:02:18]
We were camped down on the south side in a draw[00:02:21]
When a northern commenced blowing[00:02:26]
And we doubled up our guards[00:02:28]
It took every one of us to hold them in[00:02:31]
Little Joe the Wrangler[00:02:37]
Was called out with the rest[00:02:39]
Scarcely had the little fellow reached the herd[00:02:41]
When the cattle they stampeded[00:02:47]
Like a hailstorm on they fled[00:02:50]
And everyone was riding for the lead[00:02:53]
Amid the streaks of lightning[00:02:58]
There was one horse up ahead[00:03:01]
He was trying to check the leaders in their speed[00:03:03]
It was little Joe the Wrangler[00:03:09]
With a slicker over his head[00:03:11]
He was riding old Blue Rocket in the lead[00:03:14]
At last we got them milling and kinda quited down[00:03:19]
And the extra guards back to the wagon went[00:03:25]
But there was one a missing[00:03:30]
We could see it at a glance[00:03:33]
Was our little Texas stray poor Wrangler Joe[00:03:35]
Next morning just at daybreak[00:03:41]
We found where Rocket fell[00:03:43]
Down in a washout twenty feet below[00:03:46]
Beneath his horse his life had gone[00:03:51]
His spur had run its knell[00:03:54]
Was our little Texas stray poor Wrangler Joe[00:03:56]
