Written by:Ciaran Bourke/Kelly/McKenna/Ronnie Drew/Sheahan/Traditional[00:00:02]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:00:15]
And as I rode out through Galway Town to seek for recreation[00:00:20]
On the seventeenth of August me mind being elevated[00:00:23]
There were multitudes assembled with their tickets at the station[00:00:27]
And me eyes began to dazzle and they're going to see the races[00:00:31]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:00:35]
There were passengers from Limerick and passengers from Nenagh[00:00:40]
Passengers from Dublin and sportsmen from Tipperary[00:00:44]
There were passengers from Kerry and all quarters of the nation[00:00:48]
And our member Mr. Hardy for to join the Galway Blazers[00:00:51]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:00:55]
There were multitudes from Aran and members from New Quay shore[00:01:01]
The boys from Connemara and the Clare unmarried maidens[00:01:05]
People from Cork City who were loyal true and faithful[00:01:08]
They brought home the Fenian prisoners from dying in foreign nations[00:01:12]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:01:15]
And it's there you'll see confectioners with sugarsticks and dainties[00:01:21]
The lozenges and oranges the lemonade and raisins[00:01:25]
Gingerbread and spices to accomodate the ladies[00:01:29]
And a big crubeen for thruppence to be suckin' while you're able[00:01:32]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:01:36]
And it's there you'll see the gamblers the thimbles and the garters[00:01:41]
And the sporting Wheel of Fortune with the four and twenty quarters[00:01:45]
There was others without scruple pelting wattles at poor Maggy[00:01:49]
And her daddy well contented to be gawking at his daughter[00:01:53]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:01:56]
And it's there you'll see the pipers and the fiddlers competing[00:02:02]
The nimble footed dancers and they trippin' on the daisies[00:02:06]
There was others shoutin' cigars and lights and bills for all the races[00:02:09]
With the colours of the jockey and the price and horses' ages[00:02:13]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:02:16]
And it's there you'll see the jockeys and they mounted on so stately[00:02:22]
The pink the blue the orange and green the emblem of our nation[00:02:25]
When the bell was rung for starting all the horses seemed impatient[00:02:29]
I thought they never stood on ground their speed was so amazing[00:02:33]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:02:37]
There was half a million people there of all denominations[00:02:42]
The Catholic the Protestant the Jew and Presbyterian[00:02:46]
There was yet no animosity no matter what persuasion[00:02:50]
But fáilte and hospitality inducing Mr. Paisley[00:02:53]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:02:57]
With me whack fol the do fol the diddlely idle ay[00:03:01]
