The hobo was a subject that the late[00:00:00]
And great Jimmie Rogers[00:00:02]
Sang of many times during his great career[00:00:03]
And the freight train served a faithful[00:00:06]
Means of travel for the migrant worker[00:00:08]
Or for the fella out of work or some ole boy[00:00:10]
That just wanted to live off[00:00:12]
The fat of our great land[00:00:13]
And of course at this time[00:00:16]
The fat was kind a scarce[00:00:17]
Because during the period of Jimmie Rodger's[00:00:20]
Greatest popularity[00:00:21]
Our great Nation's economy was at all time low[00:00:23]
And it was known as the depression days[00:00:27]
During this time[00:00:31]
It wasn't unusual to see 50 or 75 hobos[00:00:32]
Jump from a moving freight train[00:00:36]
As it neared the edge of a city[00:00:37]
This was dangerous[00:00:40]
But it was done to keep from[00:00:41]
Being caught by the[00:00:42]
Train bulls that worked[00:00:43]
The great freight yards during this era[00:00:44]
A lot of the hobos[00:00:47]
Were respectable men and rode the rods[00:00:48]
Because it provided a dependable[00:00:50]
Means of travel which they could afford[00:00:51]
And some of them made their destinations[00:00:55]
And some of them died alongthe tracks[00:00:57]
And their friends and family never knew[00:01:00]
What happened to 'em[00:01:01]
And I would imagine maybe that Hobo Bill[00:01:03]
Was one of them[00:01:05]
