Talking Pop Art (LP版) - Tom Paxton[00:00:00]
Well I went out for a walk last week [00:00:05]
I passed a shop they call a boutique [00:00:07]
Fancy Dresses of every size fancy wigs to pop your eyes [00:00:09]
Bracelets diamond rings stuff for women too [00:00:13]
Well I didn't want to see no more [00:00:22]
I slipped inside the grocery store [00:00:24]
I took down a can of beans [00:00:26]
I pulled a dollar out of my jeans [00:00:28]
A fella said Hold it [00:00:29]
That'll be three hundred dollars [00:00:34]
Well a feather could've knocked me down [00:00:40]
I mean I knew this was a high priced town [00:00:42]
But this was getting hard to take [00:00:44]
I said What the hell do you get for steak [00:00:45]
You looked surprised [00:00:48]
Said It isn't just a can of beans[00:00:50]
It's a work of art [00:00:52]
Well now I see what the poor man means [00:00:55]
He's proud of that little can of beans [00:00:57]
I didn't hear what else he said [00:00:59]
I had my eyes on a loaf of bread [00:01:01]
White bread four hundred dollars;[00:01:03]
Three for a thousand[00:01:07]
Well just about then a crowd came in [00:01:13]
And pickin's must've been pretty slim [00:01:15]
Because in just a minute or three or four [00:01:17]
They'd cleaned out that whole grocery store [00:01:19]
They bought brooms [00:01:20]
Fought over watermelons [00:01:22]
One fella put down a pickle [00:01:24]
Said I don't know much about art [00:01:25]
But I know what I like [00:01:27]
Well as I stood there wonderin' why [00:01:33]
Two little fellas came cruising by [00:01:35]
Little tight suits little black ties [00:01:37]
One of them looked at me[00:01:39]
And said My how rustic I bid a thousand [00:01:40]
I said I beg your pardon [00:01:44]
It speaks I bid five thousand [00:01:45]
So here I stand in a Superman suit [00:01:51]
And everybody says I'm cute [00:01:53]
I tried to tell them but they would not see [00:01:55]
So they hang their hats and coats on me [00:01:57]
Well a job's a job [00:01:59]
Still if I had my preference I'd rather be Batman[00:02:01]
